Dracthyrs odd bodyshape

I made the same thread on EU but wanted to share it here too.

Okay I’m trying very hard to like the Dracthyr but their bodies are just too weirdly shaped. I mainly play healers and have been wanting a new healer class for years but I’m tired of playing races I dont want to play, and this Dracthyr is a race I don’t want to play.

It’s a bad move locking an entire class behind such a bizzare looking race, I don’t see them being played much due to it. It worked with the demon hunter because they were nelfs and belfs the coolest races in the game to a lot of people, hence why the bloodelves are played almost more than all other races put together. I’ve mained mw monk since MoP, but would never ever of touched it had the monk class been locked to the panda race only. I hate the pandaren race.

Just look at this Bellular video comments, EVERY single comment is negative about the Dracthyr body shape. All the comments with dozens or hundreds of likes are all negative towards the body shape. Even Bellular isn’t happy with it.

Also apparently with the 3 different body types you can choose from at the moment they don’t look much different from each other. The bulkier version is just a tiny bit bigger than the lanky version we’ve already seen and it looks practically the same. Can’t we have a male/female/ and this lanky form if you really want us to have it as well, as the 3 body type choices.

Please don’t use the excuse they’re lizards and lizards don’t have female or male body types (googled it apparently they do have subtle differences). Because nor do wolves (worgen), foxes (vulerpa) tauren (cows). There isn’t a difference in body type with betwen male and female wolves or foxes besides 8 nipples, but yet they gave them humanoid male and female forms ingame. Why can’t they do the same for this Dracthyr race.

I’m annoyed at the guy who drew this because it shows we could of had the coolest race I’ve ever seen added to WoW or any MMO had they of been designed like how this guy drew it. It could have bought people to the game but this lanky version definitely won’t. But instead we have these skinny lanky childrens entertainer type costume dragons only. I would happily change my main or any class I played to what this guy drew, but I don’t want to touch this lanky dragon blizz gave us, but I want a new healer so badly. Why lock a whole class to such a weird awful looking race? I swear I don’t play my class properly when I play a race I don’t want to play.

These Dracthyr remind me of this skinny small dragon from Mulan but with wings.

The Dracthyr don’t look right, their proportions look off. It’s weird because I’ve never thought this about any other race in WoW. Even the races I don’t like, such as the Panderan, Mechagnome and Kul tiran. These other races I don’t like but all look in proportion to what they’re supposed to be, body shape, lore wise and all.

Whereas the Drathyr really don’t scream “superior warrior race” that ‘Neltharion’ the coolest looking dragon made. Their head and neck look too small to the rest of the body. It looks like what you’d draw as a kid thinking you drew a monster or demon that looks cool and fierce and then you go back to it hours later with fresh eyes and see the head and neck are too small and the body isn’t the fierce muscley body you thought it was but scrawny and out of proportion to the rest of it.

Please make them have a more muscular or feminine body desgin to choose from like this guy drew. And I would be so happy to play that as a main forever. I would pay to change my other classes to it if they could be that cool muscular dragon.

It’s what happens when they reskin a warlock pet instead of making an actual new race.

Personally, I’m glad that they follow the pattern of the current Aspects. Dragons don’t need male and female parts, imo. The Aspects don’t have them. This bunch of mortal DNA mixed with Aspect DNA doesn’t either. Maloriak didn’t have distinction either, which is pretty close to what Dracthyr are. That’s my point of view on it.

But those visage forms are a disaster. They NEED unique models for those bodies. In no way, shape or form does smashing together the DNA of Trolls, Nelfs and primitive humans come out to look like a Belf or female Human. It’s lazy design. A new race should have a new model.

The humanoid forms look fine to me but ya the dragon form is WAY too skinny

Is he ever happy about anything in WoW?

Someone posted on the forums that their heads are too small. In taking a good look, I think that person was right. I think the small head makes the whole thing look off a bit.

Not that it bothers me personally, I think lots of stuff in WoW looks goofy.

The problem is the appeal of them towards the players, you can use this argument for vulpera, pandas and wrogen too. Plus the aspects don’t turn into humanoid dragons they turn into full on dragons. I want the choice to choose between a masculine, feminie or lanky form. So it caters towards all people, especially since an the whole class is restricted to this race.

Also with Maloriak, looking at images of him he definitely looks like he has a male body, those extremely broad shoulders are clearly part of a male body.

He’s not the same thing as dracthyr. He was created from a human.

I know but someone pointed him out that he resembles the Dracthyr.

Actually, yes. Sometimes he finds something he likes so much he makes several videos about how great it will be for him and those who play like him, ie raid loggers. Meanwhile the comments section is full of comments saying, “Wait, what? This may give a boost to [x], but it’s going to be really bad for [y].”

They’re aggressively boring. Instead of asking themselves what are the defining features of a dragon in WoW and how would you apply that to a playable race without making them into Naga, Saurok, or Sethrak, they said their race is mage/healer only with reptile traits. If you take away the wings would you see a lizardman or a dragonborn? They need to rethink the design at a fundamental level, which means what you see is what we’ll get.

I hope they’ll be able to wear clothes. We can freely hide most slots, so it’s not like you can’t be pantsdragon if you like.

I’m sure the non-binary experiment they’re trying at our expense will look great on some resumes. However, it would be nice to choose (in addition to androgynous?) a male and female gender, like all the other 20+ races before dracthur.

Not every comment on the Bellular video is negative, there are people voicing their approval. It’s a different media, but I also see a lot of people on twitter and in other games thrilled for them as is. I’m actually one of them. I love everything about the race as it was shown, and instantly fell in love with them. I’ve seen people in other MMOs actually talk about trying WoW just to play one too.

I guess I can only hope that with whatever changes the community force Blizzard to make, they still let those of us who love the race keep the old options. :frowning:

Seems like this is the new instant mute topic to join the ranks of HE threads.

I went back but I can’t find many positive comments at all. I’ll be fine if they keep the lanky form as one of the 3 choices with a more masculine and feminie form to choose from too, that way we’re all happy.

i like both bodyshape

I agree with everything in your post especially:

No, it does not.

At the least, Neltharion would have made them versatile so they should be also built for physical combat.

I also have an issue with the true form of the race being unable to wear the armor of its only class.

To me, the whole situation, the singular genderless form, the re-tread visage forms, the inability to use full established armor on the true form, just sings of Blizzard cheaping out.

force” is an interesting word here considering Blizz is notorious for ignoring feedback and proactively diverting from community wants and needs, or going half way at most (eg; void elves, solo queue, garrisons, “removing” aoe cap, a dragon race, etc).

Especially since, as it stands, if you want to play the new class Evoker (that will be broken/op at launch) then you will be forced to play 1 race. Forced to 1 non-binary gender.

I know there is at least one, since I posted it 9 days ago.

I’m fine with thicker body types of people want, so long as I can keep my slim one. No breasts please. I was looking forward to something else like the female Iksar from EQ2. I really like that their Dracconic form is more like a bipedal Dragon than just another WoW type race with giant breasts, huge muscles, and some horns slapped on. I absolutely love that they’re unique, and do their own thing.

It’s a type of race I have seen in very few MMOs, and I have been hoping for it in WoW for years. :frowning:

I honestly wish Blizzard hadn’t done that. WoW players are notorious for having to have everything be for them. People can’t just say that is isn’t for them and play something else. To me it makes sense that the Dragon race is using Dragon magics, but it was that way in the first MMO I played too. Only Dragons had access to their school, and they could be no other school. In WoW though we get countless people asking for a race that a lot of people are legitimately excited for to be changed just because they want to try the class but don’t like the race.

Blizz knows its playerbase. While I love what they did with the Dracthyr Evoker, they should have found a way to allow other races to be Evoker as well. Then maybe this community would have just let us have an interesting new race that was different from the other WoW races. :frowning:
