Dracthyr rant

It’s not the Draenei’s fault that deathwing created the Drakthyr…

And you certainly don’t either. Considering your contribution to this thread boils down to telling people to go outside and that nobody agrees with them.

Maybe come back when you actually have something worthwhile to say.

From what I gathered is they were created prior to him going mad .

They always do the unexpected

Here’s an idea: if the Drac’thyr / Mortal form is something that gets combat-toggled (think Worgen and their human form), then that could be applied to ANY race.

So you have your Drac’thyr or Dragon form or whatever, and you can choose, upon character creation, to have any mortal race for aesthetics (human/orc/tauren etc…).

I never put that much thought into it. I like that I’ll be able to make a dracthyr, but I’ll never use the human or elf models they have. Their looks leave much to be desired for me.

He was not always Deathwing.

Have you considered that they wanted to add something different?

Dragonspawn and Drakonids have been in the game since vanilla. You accuse the devs of being lazy, but what could have possibly been more lazy than “just let them play those”…?

Ease of armor creation + new model/race = more hype for the gamme = more sales

Because almost no one would play Dragonspawn, and Dragonspawn (lorewise) couldn’t recreate the powers and abilities of the 5 dragonflights. The point of Dracthyr Evoker is to give players access to being akin to characters like Wrathion, Alexstraza, Kalecgos, Nozdormu, and Merithra.

The simple reality is that 99% of the dragons we encounter in mortal form are either elves or humans. The only real standout is Chromie.

Wrathion, Alexstraza, Kalecgos, Kairozdormu, Onyxia, Sinestra, Deathwing, Neferian, Nozdormu, and Merithra?

Either Elves or Humans or combinations of the two.

Right? Every time I see the word ‘lazy’ on the forums, my eyeroll is audible.

well, the last one that transformed into an orc that we know of, coincidentally got choked out by a real orc

I feel similarly to be honest and the decision to not only make Dracthyr, but to make them only a single class to boot, really overshadows the other seemingly good news and decisions made during the expansion announcement.

They look bad, the backstory is ill thought out(they REALLY based an entire new race/class on a very obvious joke character, Maloriak), the class restrictions is spiteful, AND there are already better existing options if you want to introduce a reptillian/draconic player race.

It’s very much shining a light on that the “listening” nuBlizz is currently doing is only very very surface level, and they’re STILL trying to reinvent the wheel with every design decision they make when all we really need is some new tread on the old wheels.

You know what they say about opinions…

And how did you come to that conclusion? Nefarian was conducting experiments in Blackwing Lair years before Cataclysm.

because he’s literally the only reference to Dracthyr and their creation before this.

Just because they retconned the lore AGAIN to shoehorn in a new race AGAIN, doesn’t mean that it was “always something that existed”. They 100% took a joke character and turned it into a player class, because it’s something they’ve done successfully multiple times now. They did it with Draenei. They did it with Pandaren. They did it with Mechagnomes. They did it with Vulpera. They’re doing it again with Dracthyr.

So you think he was the first humanoid dragonkin? Fascinating.

because “dragonspawn” are NOT dragons. they are followers of the dragons that gained dragon features “because they hung out with dragons” U.U (someone did a relatively recent extensive dragon lore video)

but sure, those would be cool to have TOO but I like the Dracthyr race and the Evoker class to really flesh out what a dragon could be. if it had just been like a normal race, the number of abilities granted from being literally a dragon wouldn’t really fit in a set of racials or you end up with worgen that, for having claws and feral Were strengths have 0 abilities outside of auto attack. you have to use appearance changing toys and play feral just to force the game into giving some semblance of that concept.

maybe bliz could sneak in those as an allied race simply to let players have more class options and visuals out of the gate. but again, dragon kin are not dragons. they dont have dragon powers.

once the Dracthyr have been out and learned new things, perhaps they could have more classes added to them.

expanding the Evoker though. thats on par with letting Vulpera be Demon Hunters.
only way it works is if you can write in a way to grant them power. which is a lot harder to do than dying and becoming a Death Knight

Personally I would’ve rather we had the Drakonid race (The already established 2-legged Dragon-race since Vanilla) than the new Drakthyr, and popped humanoid forms with more subtle Dragon-features like the other Dragons ingame have (Option for horns, or without / not riddled with scales whether you like it or not).

That being said, I do hope Drakthyr have a flying form you can use for Dragon-riding, as yourself instead of having to use a different mount - much like the Worgen have with running wild.
