From a recent interview, warriors and mages were hinted at, but not confirmed. Warriors are sort of the basic-for-all-races class.
Here’s why Paladins make sense for Dracthyr:
- All items that Paladins use, Warriors use (warriors can also use staves, daggers, and ranged weapons).
- Bronze Dragons magic is time and per a discussion in the Bronze Lounge (where you spend bullion) between a Lightforged Draenie and a Void Elf, “Time is akin to light” (paraphrasing), so essentially they’re very similar in the type of magic they are I guess (because of color?).
Light seems to have 2 sources (if we ignore time). Belief is the main source which is mostly to do with priests and paladins and their faith in the light. Then sun is also a source, as basically Tauren looked at the sun and could wield its power. That source of light though is what ties light to fire damage.
The list of classes Dracthyr cannot be (because it doesn’t make sense) is shorter:
- Priests - Light yes, but there’s no tie to shadow magic/necrotic magic from any of the 5 dragon types
- Warlock - Same reason as above. Some warlocks are only fire (or even Fel) and that works, but you can’t lock out a spec because of a certain race
- Demon Hunter - Makes no sense
All other classes can fit based on what went into creating the Dracthyr. I suppose one could be taught how to use certain types of magics. Druid would be interesting simply because you’d have to create all new forms and druid could work because of the Emerald powers.
Out of all the fun things WoW brings, being a Dracthyr Paladin, or simply put, playing as a dragon on my main, would be the best thing in the world to me. I played an Evoker in Remix, and honestly, I spent probably 40% of my time flying around finding orbs and rare elites using the Soar ability. I love it. It’s so fun and yet so simple.
I’ve been asking for Dracthyr to have Paladins since I was selected to test the Dracthyr starting area during the pandemic.
Also, make Deep Breath a racial for Dracthyr so, as a Paladin, you can use that as a damaging and/or healing ability. That would be such an amazing and fun way to pull as a tank! Make it different based on the class/spec the Dracthyr chooses.
Oh, and in that interview video, the person thought priests could work. Well, as seen in the Paladin Class Hall questlines, a priest can literally pick up a 2h weapon and become a Paladin, so a Dracthyr Priest could do the same.
