Sure but Lore isn’t likely the real reason they went this route, at least I hope not. Lore at this stage would have been mutable enough to go in varying directions to accommodate at minimum the triad if not all 4 roles for the race. Unless, as has been suggested, nobody at Blizzard stopped and went “guys the new race can’t tank.” Again the Lore at this point is likely a cover for the lack of money/time/effort to make a race and a class with more options.
Then that wouldn’t be an accurate metric by locking a single class that people may not like (why would anyone want to play an arcadey class in an rpg?) Anyone with a brain would be able to tell that the metric is not a good resource with the race skewed to only be one class, one that cannot even tank while at it.
The class and race came out of the nether. Demonstrating that lore and new classes is not baised on previous lore, which makes any new class a vaible option to add in the game (incoming farmer class)
Someone’s mad.
Man bad data gets used as fact so much now it wouldn’t surprise me. And it could easily stated in a way that is entirely true. IE “When we released Pandarians we saw 60% of the player base make at least 1 and 20% swap to the race long-term, but with Dracthyr we still saw a huge number early on 70% but long-term we only have about 5% of players using the new race.” It’s accurate to the data they had and could be construed to make the point about new races not being liked/needed. I mean it’s the example with BL3 they just looked at numbers no consideration was given to why those numbers were low and how they could fix it.
yeah, that is one of the main things I am uneasy about and one of the reasons i don’t agree with the people who support the Dracthyr being limited to one class for lore reasons. Lore is not some indestructible thing the Blizz team finds perfectly formed and ready to use out in the wild somewhere. its something they invent. They made up the Dracthyr race recently and their lore is so new that it technically dose not exist in the WoW game yet. they 100% have the power to tweak it to add new classes. But I suspect that the cut corners came first and the lore was shaped around it to explain away why they were not giving us things like transmog and other class options afterwards- i doubt it happened the other way around. its not a good sign.
I get the feeling they will add more classes to this race down the road. It is a serious waste of a model to just be locked to 1 class. It is also a huge waste of revenue for blizz. I for one would race change several of my characters to Dracthyr in a heartbeat.
Sorry, but just think about what you are saying…
As If Blizzard not already knows how that will look.
They are under investigation by officials and by the player community to see if they will trip up and make a mess again.
I’m not supporting the one class/race option we get, but I’d like if they at least stick with it until later in the expansion.
Also we need an official statement by Blizz that explains the plan for Dracthyr going forward.
Like I said people have been repeatedly suggesting in these threads that blizz probably didn’t even think about how people would react to the restrictions that they were just as shocked as we were when they found out. And if we go back to them knowing and choosing to make that choice the question again becomes why. Why design something you know is going to cause people to feel left out simply because of the role they enjoy playing. Again the suggestion has been not enough resources for all the needed work like animations.
And that kind of work is what needs to be done now, the longer we wait the longer we risk goblin/worgen monk issues, something that should have been corrected in WoD at the latest. And they know these threads will likely die out/get drowned out after launch and then they can say no one really wants more they like what they have. Or worse the monkey paw curls a finger and we get more classes…but only in visage form with different racials.
the only point you got over is that you’re a negative ned and you want something to talk about.
Honestly at this point I wish they would at least announce a road map for when the rest of us could expect to use the race as a main. Would be way better than the buzzwords designed to placate people with the thread of hope.
A roadmap would be dope
Right? I mean a simple breakdown of if they actually do plan on making the race more availble and when they are thinking that might be would be great.
i honestly believe they’re going to have to, or it’ll just be a huge part of the game people are missing out on. people have been asking for a new race like this for a long time, but not everyone is impressed by the one class caster thing…
i’m not a hater, but blizz is better than that, and i’m surprised people hold them to lower standards these days. they can do a lot more with expanding this race.
Right, since cata this will be the first race missing part of the MMO Triad, and for what reason I can only fathom. If it was resources I would have rather just waited until it was fully done instead of just having this weird hybrid class/race thing. If it is actually just a lore choice then why? I mean what benefit does the lore have by only having one class?
I mean were there no threats when Neltharion made this race that might have been problematic for them all being one-trick ponies. There was nothing out there that needed to be fought in close quarters, or needed some type of defensive training to deal with?
And then there are the people who get made that it might be different like the lore is the only thing they have in life and it’s set now no changies. People who act like ever opening up class options would be stupid because Wings/claws don’t need weapons or some such. I mean a perfect army would see the benefit in learning new techniques, magics, and armor types. Unless again that perfect army is just as flawed as their original concept.
Blizzard is broke af and getting railed by lawsuits with an expac that flopped and everyone wants to get out of asap.
With a non-content patch 9.3, this game is teetering on the edge of maintenance mode. They CAN’T deliver what we want.
They’ve literally hinted/spoke on this and yet people are still freaking out.
I think Dracthyr will eventually have more classes unlocked for them, it just won’t be in (or at least at the beginning of) the Dragonflight expansion. It would be the most lore accurate for them to only have access to the Evoker class at the beginning of Dragonflight.

It’s definitely possible down the line.
could they learn to pick up an axe and be a great warrior, quite possibly
Sorry but that’s not confirming or denying anything it’s flat out just saying what will cause the least waves.

“lore” accurate means that’s what blizzard decided, we don’t have preexisting lore on Dracthyr so it only makes lore sense because blizzard decided that was the lore. The lore could have been how they were created and some were taught how to be evokers, others warriors, yet more rogues, and some hunters. Lore isn’t the reason for the decision it’s the excuse.
yeah none of the devs have confirmed that we will be getting more classes for Dracthyr. Whenever the question comes up they dance around it with very non committal words that people keep reading into. lots of “maybe, possibly, someday” floating around but no “yes.” and having watched/listened to all of the interviews, they seem very hesitant and unenthusiastic about those questions. in other cases i have seen them use Evoker/Dracthyr interchangeably. one guy even admitted he forgot which was which because it didnt matter- which sounds like they don’t really think of these things as a real race.
I would be perfectly fine with them saying that other classes were coming later in the xpack for lore reasons. and i don’t doubt that eventually we will get more classes- but if we follow the trend, then like i said previously, we will be waiting 3+ years before they bother opening up the race to other classes. That will be well after the xpack that hyped them up. and that’s not acceptable to me.
And if they already had plans for opening them up in dragonflight, they would have likely advertised it by now as a selling point or at the very least as a way to calm the masses after seeing the negative reception.
so yeah, if we get a map telling us when in dragonflight they plan to give us more classes, i’d be happy with that. but i doubt that is something they will do unless the players manage to convince them otherwise.
Honestly why would they, if they do it this way and we stop pushing after awhile it’ll be like the missing monk races faded and never happening.
