We’ll see. As it stands, I believe they’re going to keep it like the dragons, where weapons disappear and simply become stat sticks to empower the dragon. Perhaps at some point Blizzard will expand Dracthyr to other classes, but on the other hand, they might not.
Perhaps we’ll get an allied race or 2 to placate the people wanting a new race for existing classes.
We just want to tank that’s all it 's not about having options for the old classes but hell they didn’t give the race options for all roles, and if they don’t do one or the other then tanks mains just get a bigger middle finger.
But Blizzard has already said tanking is off the table because they feel that tanking doesn’t fit the class, and that there’s enough tanks as is. So the best bet (at least for this expansion) is to hope for a AR for tanking.
Honenstly, my best hope is still that like at 10.3, they’ll say if you have Evoker at lvl.70, then you’ll unlock AR Dracthyr to a degree. That would be like say a lvl.10 warrior in SW/Org of the race.
I realize it’s not exactly what you have in mind. But it’s a similar mind wave imo.
For the class hence this thread about opening up more classes like Ion said was possible. It’s about the first race in the game that cannot tank in anyway shape form or fashion. But that’s been mentioned enough and either people just want to troll or they choose not to read and just quick respond to the last post
He said open it up possibly in the future, but not in the upcoming expansion.
And honestly, I would have liked to see a third spec, even a tank spec in the new Evoker class, I thought going with another 2-spec class was a rather cheap move on Blizzard’s part.
Perhaps not, but its not happening in Dragonflight. I could definitely forsee some challenges making this race multi-class in the future. I don’t really believe they’re ever going to separate Dracthyrs from Evokers. They’re intertwining the hell out of them with the class abilities.
I personally hope that it will be during Dragonflight.
Dracthyr and evoker are not the same.
Yes evoker uses the unique Dracthyr physique to perform their spellcasting, but in the end dracthyr is only a body.
Ion and Blizzard seem pretty adamant about Dracthyr being Evokers and Evokers being Dracthyr. To the point of even promoting the new race and class as WoW’s “first ever race-and-class combo!” on the expansion’s home page. I really don’t see them wavering from that for a long time, if ever. It appears to be a goal of the concept itself.
I’m very excited for a new ranged only heals/DPS class and I’m planning on making an Evoker in prepatch, but it’s oddly tone-deaf to only release one class on a really cool-sounding race. I mean who doesn’t want to play a friggin’ dragon? They should make warriors and maybe shaman or monk avalable on Dracthyr.
I believe their mindset is that Shaman, Warriors, and Monks aren’t dragons and vice versa. Their goal in creating the Dracthyr Evoker is to make players into playable versions of the Dragon aspects, not to make a drakonid race that needs to choose existing classes.
They’ve really mainly just focused on Evokers only ever being Dracs. and that for 10.0, they want to focus on Dracthyr’s roots being Evoker, but several sources have stated, they are more then willing to open them up later in the story past 10.0, when they get exposed to the ppl of Azeroth, and our Mega-factions.
Again, that isn’t what’s being expressed in interviews and deep dives, and it would be odd to push the race/class lock if you’re going to abandon it DURING the expansion where you’re pushing it as a feature.
I suppose we’ll see, but frankly I forsee Dracthyr being exclusive for Evokers for the entire duration of Dragonflight.
Right, but we are trying to say the mindset is going to lead to tears. What happens when you have a 20man Dracthyr Evoker raid and no tanks because everyone wants to be a dragon?
Just like Demon Hunter or Death Knight where no one could heal. The only self-sufficient new class was Monks, and they’re one of the least played classes in the game. Go figure.
In short, everything will be fine. There will always be people who don’t play new classes.
Aside from say the day 1 deep dive, most interviews I’ve seen are more loose on it. But I will admit, that might be my hopes clinging to wordplay.
The difference here, is that a class like those, is inherently different then the fact that these are PLAYBLE DRAGONS, and they can’t tank, or be used in any role. No one here is really contesting that the Evoker and Dragon feeling class has to be a tank.
Just that we should get to play the Dragon looking race, in any role possible.
But since then Ion also said that they might add additional classes like warrior.
When and how is not known yet.
I hope that a future interview clarifies that.
We could make the same argument that Demon Hunters are a specific race of half-demon elves, and they can’t heal, only be Demon Hunters. Blizzard appeared to have no issue with keeping all of the customizations and racial options exclusive to demon hunters. In fact, one could argue that what they did with Demon Hunter was a harbinger for what they’re doing here.
