that is an overused statement …
no additional Tank class … and we got 3 of them did really have an positive impact on the Tank numbers.
The only thing I could see making sense is they have a different class in human form. There is no reason they couldn’t. I think dragons fight as a warrior or shaman or something else while human. There is zero chance blizzard would do that though. It would likely be a technical challenge and a nightmare to balance.
I think it will have an impact on the tank population though, at least in the short term.
I know 2 tanks (in addition to myself, so three total) that are considering dropping tanking just so that they can play a dragon.
I mean, it’s a dragon. It’s a cool new race that folks want to try. Of course it could potentially affect the tank population if they cannot tank.
again you have to remember that Dracthyr are not dragons.
they are artificial beings.
The never had any chance to walk the world before the awakening of the Dragon isles
Exactly. As far as I can tell, every single race in the game can at least perform all three roles. So people can pick a race they really like and go with that role. I’m not even a massive fan of dragon races in fantasy games. I like things like pandaren and draenei more, but I was so excited to get to play a panda when they came out.
I had been a druid main and opted to try shaman and monk because they didn’t have druid as an option. That was okay, I had plenty of other choices to heal on. Overall, I was able to try it out and there was a good middle ground.
I feel awful for those who love dragon races and that lore but can’t play one because they are a tank. Or they might try the new class hoping to just swap to it, and end up not enjoying the playstyle of the evoker. Then they are stuck either playing a class they don’t enjoy to get the race they’ve waited on, or have to forget playing it all together. No compromise with another class to try.
Yeah I get that. I’m happy with that. I am loving the concept. If they want them their own thing that’s great imo.
If they dont want to give another class , they should open a tank spec for tanks , range or mage tank would be amazing.
I doubt they would add another spec. The class is what it is. I think it would be much better to open them up to a few other classes, ones that can make sense. Even if it’s later down the road in the expansion.
I love the idea of unlocking other classes for them like we unlocked ARs. Then it gives the story of how they could learn those abilities after being secluded, but lets us unlock it sooner.
I think that would be a nice addition. Who doesn’t like more toys. I don’t see it happening in Dragonflight though.
Exactly this. It would still be a bit restrictive for my tastes but at least the race could perform every role, which would open them up for everyone to enjoy.
As it is, it just alienates an entire section of players.
I’m happy whichever way they go, so long as they can tank. If they can NEVER tank, I’ll be more than a little disappointed.
This will absolutely have a negative impact on the number of tanks, it’s just a matter of how great an impact.
I know that adding a tank class has not had a significant impact on increasing the number of tanks in game, we have seen this with DK, Monk and DH. However adding a race that can Not tank is a very different matter.
This is because there are people who like to tank and those who don’t. Those who don’t like/want to tank won’t start tanking just because a new class comes out with the ability to tank.
However there will definitely be players (potentially myself included) who like tanking and typically tank, but want to play the new race because dragons are cool. So for those players who would normally be tanks but will now be playing Dracthry, this just reduced the number of tanks out there.
In summation: Adding a tank class does not really increase the number of players tanking, but adding a race that cant tank will decrease the number of players tanking.
Demon hunter is a class available to blood elves and night elves. It has some extra customization but otherwise has all other customizations available to blood elves and night elves. If someone wants to play a blood elf or a night elf as something other than a demon hunter, they can do that.
It is not comparable to Dracthyr. Dracthyr aren’t a class; they are a playable race. There is as it stands now, however, no way to access Dracthyr customizations unless one plays their single class, evoker.
People keep telling me dracthyr will fail as is. I think they are going to do fine. There does seem to be plenty of interest.
I would love them to add a tank spec. I would look at that addition as a bonus. I think it won’t happen though. Prepare for disappointment
The mog thing killed my interest instantly. They made a race that has essentially all the bad from Druid Forms and Worgen combined but none of the benefits.
After getting that info, the design for this race looks simply lazy and it answers why there are no more classes. Imagine making a cheetah into a mage. Dracthyr probably have a load of animation limitations because they treat it as a Druid Form.
No I like the limited one race one class. It’s something different. Stop trying to make every race every class.
Go away. Bad kitty.
People like you ruin muh immersion.
Not quite the same thing.
Dracthyr are basically dragons. They have wings and a breath weapon. Their class, the Evoker, is designed to use those appendages in their class abilities. Result is their class is much more entwined with their race.
I was bummed. In the end I like what I’ve seen. I just have to accept my dracthyr won’t be entering any tmog comps. I’m sure there is a reason behind the madness. Maybe they will explain it eventually
We have seen dragonkin be all sorts of classes from warriors, to mages, to wrathion using a dagger- had a whole legendary dagger quest line and cloak.
It would be like you only being able to be a void elf as a shadow priest.
I disagree.
I don’t see it the same way at all. Void elves don’t have any unique body parts that other playable races don’t have. By limiting Dracthyr to one class, Blizzard can really tie the class in with the race and (hopefully) give it much more racial character.
However, I do think it’s a shame Dracthyr cannot melee. From a balance perspective the game needs a new ranged dps. But from a classic fantasy perspective, dragons are usually powerful melee combatants fighting with tooth and claw. It seems odd to have a race that appears to be so suited to melee, unable to melee.
It’s a shame Dracthyr don’t have a third spec that is melee. Perhaps a tank spec.
I actually plan on quitting tanking because of this.
I love tanking but dragons will always come first to me and I plan sticking with this race for good. Evoker should at least cover all 3 roles like monk if Dracthyr are locked into it.
Sorry but you made a pretty big mistake Blizzard. I’m a dps player now.
