Dracthyr evokers might get a future tank spec

from an interview wowhead(.)com/news/ion-hazzikostas-dragonflight-interview-with-korean-webzine-potion-dracthyr-326855?webhook

Ion has said that “This class is initially only going to have two specializations, there’s certainly room in the future to add a third, but for now range dps and healer is where we’re focused.”

Personally I take the whole " In terms of the roles that made sense for them, part of it is when we think about wings, we think about the physical attributes of a dragon, that almost speaks to movements, attacking from a distance, breath weapons, things like that, and by definition tanking in World of Warcraft means being up in front of your enemy, having them strike you in the face, and that the fantasy just didn’t feel quite as on point there." quote from it as a bunch of malarky given that demon hunters have breath weapons and wings as well yet they were made perfectly viable tanks, it doesn’t add up.

If y’all want a tank spec for evokers so badly, keep pestering them since they haven’t finalized on a potential future third spec.

Not before Shaman finaly get a tank spec.

People just want a new tank spec because they think every new class should have a tank spec because then maybe it will be easier to find tanks

Hmm, let me think about that…

What breath weapon does a DH have?

Edit: Also a core part of what makes a demon hunter a demon hunter is warglaives. A strictly melee weapon, meaning DHs are guaranteed right up in your face.

every raid boss is tuned for 2 tanks. if every raidboss was tuned for 3-4 tanks, there’d be a healer shortage instead, like there was in TBC.

exactly 2 tanks for each boss is boring. why not alternate, some fights many, some fights 1… hell, some fights none? we have Codex.

all that potential and we get normalized 2-5-13

If you read that article he says tanking doesn’t fit their fantasy for the dracthyr. Don’t see how you get tank spec out of that

Doubt they will. What he said was they may add an additional spec to them and hopefully demon hunters as well. Feels weird to see just two specs in classes instead of the minimum three.

More then likely if they give both Demon Hunters and Dracthyr a third spec, it will be DPS for both.

Best you can hope for in either 11.0 or just late into 10.0 is they allow Dracthyr to be other classes like warrior, mage, etc.

I think it’s far more likely that they get more or less forgotten about after Dragonflight, and become another thing that “We’d really like to do that in the future.”.

While I would like a class that could tank, heal, and do ranged dps (that isn’t a druid) I don’t really see them adding a tank spec to evokers.

I think it’s far more likely (and even preferable to me since I can race change some characters) that we’ll get more classes.

I would really like some more classes, actually. I want my two current mains to be Dracthyr. Because dragons.

This basically says not next expansion don’t pester them it wont be here in 10.0

Would be nice.

Especially for like an improved dragon form that is chonkier. Or using the dragonkin guardian form to tank.

Bunch of stuff they can do. Scale passives, slashes, fire slashes, burns, regen magics through the green and bronze magics, black and red fire engulf the dragon to damage others and heal itself.

Magic fire scale pin missiles? Summon fire dragon elementals like onyxia fight (as drakes). (Moar dots reference) Could summon an earth dragon. And be a nice earth dragon take.

it was fancy speak for an answer to have less negative reception to DF selling. If he said no, many would not buy DF and it would be a bad time overall. He basically said “yes but actually no” pretty much. Don’t hold your hope out for them tanking and getting a 3rd spec out of nowhere. Once a class is made, that’s it.

Why not ask for a mage tank as well while we are at it.

i don’t understand why a class that is being designed as a ranged class has people asking for it to be a tank. Please don’t tell me that you think that a ranged tank would work in wow, because it won’t.

Why did people ask for hunter to have a melee spec? Wait…did anyone ask for that? I don’t remember.

it was logical. 3 ranged DPS specs made no sense, and ancient times we had what were called “spear hunters” and they were melee. In Classic wow and TBC classic now, you can also see melee skills for hunters existed ages ago. There was infact a “melee hunter” and still exists in those versions of wow now.

Survival ranged was very very bad… I know from experience. Traps do damage…oh nice. You heal 40% after killing on enemy…oh yeah useless in raids. Nothing unique about them.

Now its:

1 ranged spec- no pets, bigger damage
2nd ranged spec - with pet support
3rd spec melee with pet. And bombs. And other silly fun fantasy stuff.

Not 3 ranged specs with or without pets and copy paste.

I’m not going to lose sleep fighting for it, but I do absolutely think it should have a tank spec. It just seems like a really strange decision for them to forego one. Them being a magic based, or medium ranged class seems like a moot point. The class is whatever abilities you give it. Squishy because they don’t wear plate? Have an ability that makes them tougher. Look at druids.

Plus I think it’s always good to add more styles to play a particular role, especially one that is less popular and always in high demand like tanks. There might be players out there who have tried tanking and not taken to it because they just didn’t like the playstyles of the current selections. You add another, you just might create the exact right type of playstyle for those players, adding a whole new swathe of tanks to the pool. That’s only a good thing.

Maybe it would be easier to add some talents for Tank for ench shamans . Instead of creating entire new specialisation.
Just an idea

Nah, adding new tank specs won’t do anything except give already existing tanks a new toy to play with.

Though as an existing tank player, I’d be more than ok with that.

I’d point to Vengeance DH’s. They don’t even have the excuse of being a “dodge” tank like Monks do, or shapeshifting into a tankier critter like Bears do.

They just wear leather and get punched in the face.

It’s kinda funny that at this point the “traditional” sword-and-board and full plate tanks are outnumbered by non-traditional tanks now.

If they get a tank spec good for them.
But IMHO they really don’t need it.
All Hero classes so far had only 2 roles to fill, Why should the Evoker be any different?

I’ll play an Evoker anyway, with 3 specs or not.
