Now that it’s confirmed dracs are getting more classes, what’s gonna be their choices.
Let’s see.
The given blanket classes are war, mage, rogue, hunter, and priest.
Warlock: if LFD and maghar can be locks then dracs can for sure.
Monk: don’t see why not.
Druid: relationship with green dragons makes this an obvious yes.
Shaman: at first I was on the fence about this, but given that vyranoth is now an aspect and some primalists followed her then there’s no reason why not. Plus dragons have always been proficient with the elements.
Death knight: see I figured this would be a hard no since both DK scenarios take place before Dragonflight, but since Earthen can somehow be DKs then I guess that continuity doesn’t matter.
Paladin: between Tyr and the Tyr’s Guard operating in the dragon isles then this is a hard yes.
So I guess that leaves out DH untill they decide to update their intro to incorporate all races.
Logically you’d think they’d align classes with the flight colors.
Blue - mages, maybe hunters
Green - druid, monks
Red - evokers, shamans
Bronze - ?
Black - warriors, rogues
The bronze flight, having time warping capabilities is the hardest to figure out. Also, we don’t exactly understand if the dragons/dracthyr call upon the light for healing. Our current gold/light looking heals are from bronze time warping abilities. So I dunno where priest & paladins would fit, even with all the Tyr guard stuff. It’s a little hazy.
Demon weilding and shadow/void is also tricky.
Not that they’ll be using any logic to their new class system. I just like to pretend things will somehow make sense.
Which is sad, because their inherent flight magics are incredibly unique and interesting. I could even see shamans fitting in the black flight as earthwarding guardians (like augvokers) - even though most of their healing spells are water based. There is a way to get all classes to fit in, I just don’t have a lot of faith they’re gonna take the time to work out the details.
Probably everything except Druid and Demon Hunter and maybe Paladin and Shaman since they are the only four still non-universal classes and they don’t need Evoker since they started as that so.
There will be no internal logic. They’re just kowtowing to popular demand and sacrificing the internal cohesion of the setting to do so.
Dracthyr non-Evokers make as much sense as Lightforged Demon Hunters.
Truthfully, they would have to add a subclass system to make non-Evokers work for Dracthyr, and Evoker would have to be locked in for Dracthyr at all times. But that would never happen.
I’ve always assumed they would unlock playable classes, but it’s going to be in a typical Blizzard “gotta get sub numbers up, so we’ll do it 2 years from now long after no one cares” sort of thing.
I am SO excited about this. I might even race change this character to Dracthyr and she’s been a Draenei since Mists of Pandaria. (Originally was a Blood Elf)
You mean like how I’m a giant towering canonically 9 foot tall Cow who could toss you across the room with a single kick, but instead I use magic and never once hit you physically ever?
Yeah. They put some work into this new race, so they gotta ride their new pet horse for as long as possible for what they assume will be maximum ROI. I honestly have 0 desire for other playable classes on dracthyr. I’m swamped with alt character combos as it is. But, someone will inevitably want their dracthyr to have cool monk moves and be able to tank, so… that will become a thing.
I predict at minimum the basic quartet; Warrior, Rogue, Mage, Priest. Probably Warlock and Hunter as well since they’re also easy enough to translate. Monk animations might be a bit strange with the dragon rig so I dunno about that one. Shamans, Paladins, and especially Druids will require more assets to be made so they seem less likely. Death Knights may require another lore-excuse for Dracthyr ones to be raised and they wouldn’t fit with the default starting experiences. Demon Hunters would actually fit very well considering the horns and wings and such but they also got the lore issues.
