DPS threat

I think I was the reason a WC run went south last night. My shaman dumps so much threat on target that the tank couldn’t keep stuff off me.

Problem is I’m unhappy with how low my DPS is. I want more DPS. Bigger numbers.

I’m currently using a 2h axe. I’m thinking I’m going to have to gimp myself with a mace and shield next time to try and lower my DPS so the tank can tank.

That seems really counter-intuitive though. Is this how things will be going forward? I’ll have my 2h axes for solo and have to pull out a board for dungeons?

Not interested in going resto though. I want to be enh for the crits and stormstrike and big axes.

Have you done some research, check out some forums and what not, see if someone found a way for it?

Don’t start attacking immediately. If you’re still pulling aggro, stop spamming your abilities.

Well what were you using/doing?

It sounds like you had a bad tank if they couldn’t keep threat off a Shaman in WC.

You weren’t using Earth Shock and Rockbiter were you?

My auto-attack alone was pulling mobs off the tank.

Which is why I’m thinking I’ll have to use a mace and board instead of a 2h next time.

If you want crits and big axes roll a warrior dude.

Biggest thing would be to make sure you are hitting the tank’s main target. Ask him to skull his main target if he is not doing so already.
If you are already doing that, at least wait for a few sunders to be on the target before going all out.

Yeah that definitely sounds like you were not hitting the tank’s main target if you pulled with just an auto swing or two.
Either that or you had a really bad tank.

Like I said, don’t attack immediately. If you wait a few seconds, and your auto attacks are still pulling aggro then that’s just a bad tank.

Make sure you aren’t using rockbiter or earthshock, don’t put down any of the fire totems that you can’t control which thing they hit. Turn off your dps meter and worry more about attacking just the tank’s target and let him get a couple sunders on it, don’t use a whirlwind axe.

problem is that enh shaman dps is LOW LOW LOW BUUUUUUUURRRSSST once you get whirlwind totem it will help the warrior tanks keep threat off you.

I’m using a Heavy Ogre War Axe I got from Duskwood. Enchanted with minor impact, with rockbiter weapon enhancement.

The only totems I used was searing totem and tremor totem. I don’t have water totems yet.

Don’t use rockbiter, as others have said.

“Imbue the Shaman’s weapon, increasing melee attack power by 50 and allowing melee attacks to cause additional threat when using that weapon. Lasts for 5 minutes.”

" to cause additional threat when using that weapon. "

" additional threat"

You front load a lot of damage, at that level a Warrior has jack crap to do until they have Rage. Wait. That’s all.

It gets better with levels as Warriors and Druids get more tools and better modifiers, but early on Rage is a massive pain in the butt and all you have to worry about are CDs and Mana.

Shamans were able to tank in vanilla 5 mans because rock biter weapon imbue and earth shock both have insanely high threat modifiers. You should never use these as a dps (unless you’re earth shocking to interrupt).

It’s just counter-intuitive when my class spec is enchancements and to play well with others I’m not supposed to enhance.

Mace and board and do not buff so I lightly tap the monsters so they don’t get too angry. Got it.

I cannot help but detect a bit of trollishness. What’s your angle here?

edit: good grief, rockbiter…

You can still use flametongue weapon enhancement as a dps and when you get windfury you can use that.

As a side note, rockbiter imbue actually works like warrior defensive stance. It increases all threat you do while you have it, not just the threat from your autoattacks if I understand it correctly.

There are other enchants you can use that do not add extra threat. Flametongue, frostbrand, windfury. stuff like that do not add extra threat like rockbiter does.

Angle? I just think it’s ridiculous I have to put rubber grommets on my weapons so I can go dungeon delving without a party wipe.

What is Blizzards angle?
