EDIT: Seems to be some confusion here. At Blizzcon 2023, Ion straight out said that Earthen would be unlocked “just by completing the War Within leveling campaign.” Can’t post links, but it’s on the official WoW YouTube, Blizzcon 2023 War Within Deep Dive, 33:00 minute mark. Crowd goes nuts.
Confirmed today that there’s an achievement, likely with Campaign Quests, once you hit level 80 to unlock the Earthen. Do not timegate this. That would guarantee nobody is going to want to play this race.
Before anyone brings up BfA, let me highlight some differences:
-BfA introduced the concept of Allied Races so there was experimenting to be done.
-BfA introduced eight AR at launch. 4 of them were Legion reps that most people had done already
-In addition to that point, people could work towards/unlock the Legion ones before xpac officially launched.
-All of them are gimmies now
I’m excited about Earthen but I respect that a lot of people aren’t. Part of that reason is because it is a single faction neutral allied race and it is technically a third Dwarf.
This one reskinned faction neutral race is a box feature and no longer an original idea like it was in BfA. I’m all for having lore reasons and RP to recruit them, but for the love of God do not insult people by making them wait weeks to play it.
I can’t believe I have to add this but also don’t timegate them in 11.0 then make them a gimmie in 11.2. If this was already your plan please reconsider if you want anyone to play this race.

Uh… we always knew we had to get an achievement to unlock Earthen. It’s an Allied Race. You’ll most likely need max renown and all of their storyline.
No, Legion did.
No, they did not. And none were available at launch.
Oh, I just assumed earthen would be available at the start, forgot they were an “allied race.” I didn’t plan on making one, but I think it’s a little crazy to lock them behind “finishing” the majority of the available expansion before you can play the new race. Isn’t earthen one of their selling points for the expansion? Oh Blizz, you’ll never change, but you should.

I would just expect this to be gated in some way. It wouldn’t be aligned with Blizzard’s history for them to make this something where you just complete the zone quest and allazhazam you unlock the race.
Also, not sure why people keep climbing over themselves for reskin races.
Stop unlocking and creating these reskins and blizzard will stop putting them out.
I thought it would be released after the timegated campaign. Not sure if that’s wise.

It makes sense to lock them behind their storyline, though. They don’t get a starter zone or anything. So it’s to learn about them and why they join us.

Earthen actually do get a starting zone.
It takes about 5 minutes to complete.
But theyre the first allied race with one which i find pretty cool.

Fair point. They could have finagled it in such a way that they get an introductory quest line as part of the TWW prepatch, then we could “earn their trust” in the pre patch and unlock them when TWW goes live.

With the story theyre telling, it doesnt make any sense for them to be unlocked before doing the story.
(Sure they could have changed the plot but yeah)
If it’s like every other Allied Race, they start in their city, you pick up a quest and go through a portal and turn it in.
I’d like it if their storyline was the first one we did and they ixnayed the rep.
Their starting zone is on alpha.

Is it the same earthen we helped in Deepholm? Seemed like we earned their trust already. We could be playing the splintered group of earthen or whatever returning to the main kingdom.
I’m pulling crap out my butt here, I have no idea whats going on with the earthen in TWW and whether this idea could plausibly fit or not.
I feel like you wouldn’t be asking if you didn’t already realize this is probably what they plan to do.
Yes but the way its looking its going to be weeks locked up for some people…
I could see a day or 2 but weeks if the achievements. Are the same going into live it’s sort of…well, I’ll be nice and say typical blizzard as of late.

No, this is a tribe cut off from the world for thousands of years. Which is why DKs make no sense for them. lol
Probably more like a year, knowing how the other AR went.
