I’m newish to pvp && I’m terrible at pvp, skill wise.
Additionally, I have no dungeon gear, no raid gear, and no pvp gear.
I don’t like dungeons, almost never go in them. Can’t stand raids. I’m not going to do those to gear up for pvp.
I’m currently doing my 40 hours of game play to earn my first piece of pvp gear. That’s one piece. It’ll take many weeks to get a few pieces.
I die almost instantly to everything, it seems. Me “busting up mid” in WSG to go on offense is utter suicide. Carrying a flag is…has been done a couple of times but I’ve got the durability of soggy diapers…it’s not great. I’m best if I can stay with a group of people, so I try to do that. And I chose to respec in a way that I thought might help my teammates carry the flag rather than outright kill people (WSG).
So, though I admit I’m new and not good at pvp, some of this is gear. And whatever portion of my gameplay that is gear related, I cannot change that. Blizzard designed it this way - new people have to get beat up by veterans to, I guess, earn their stripes. Seems an odd business model in the modern era (ie, welcoming new people to your game would seem a better approach but then again I don’t own a billion dollar company).

The problem with the gear situation is it sort of makes it impossible for you to learn to get better if you’re queuing into 2 40k Rpals and 2 40k Boomkins every match. Lol I honestly feel for you man.
Blizzard designed this expansion with casuals as not even as an after thought. About all you can do is suffer through a normal/epic BG win and a skirmish win daily to get your 1 piece of conquest gear a week–and even when you’re full conquest you’ll be going against 259 players and experiencing the same BS.
Then they fixed it where casuals can’t even suck it up and buy an 1800 boost so they can play decent random matches. Lol About the only advice I have for you is to watch a ton of high XP streams, read class guides, etc. and start from the bottom in 2’s and RBGs and hope it goes well. It worked out for me last season, but it was a long, annoying process to get there.

There’s no way it’ll take 40 hours for 1 piece of gear. You’re lost. Takes like 4 hours at most. Maybe 5. I have to say that this season is the worst ever for alts or new players, that’s for sure and I wish they would quit being greedy and feeding off of token systems, which is supporting the same type of idea as an illegal website. The rating-gate is meant to get blizzard a lot more money, because people want to buy carries with gold. It’s pathetic really. But there are ways around it man. I promise. It just takes time. Not to get the initial starter gear, but the gear after that. You can play random BG’s kind of ok-ish with maxed out level 5-7 BG gear. Anything rated, you have to literally have the starter gear maxed out to 7 (which isn’t possible just yet because of time-gating Renown levels), but once that time passes, it’ll be much better for you. Come back in 2 months and you’ll enjoy your time spent here a lot more. Btw Blizzard you should be ashamed of yourselves.

I like your enthusiasm and I’ll gladly take your critique. I’m in TBC classic, I’ve been doing WSG (honor weekend!) for the past 3-4 hours, I get about 2 matches in per hour (15 minute q, 15 minute game). All losses.
I’ve earned 650 honor so far today. The chest piece is 20,000 honor. At this pace I think 40 hour estimate for that chest piece is conservative
I know words don’t convey emotion well so let me state I’m still enjoying the fight a bit (more so than not playing). I die a lot. But some of my deaths feel like a soldier sacrificing himself so his teammate can get the flag that much further, there’s some tactic stuff I can employ, and that’s enjoyable.
Now, I did spend 3-4 hours yesterday researching the google for “games like wow pvp” and read lots of reddit and whatnot…to conclude there’s not really another experience like this and it gets a lot nicer with decent gear. So I guess I’ll grind a way for a bit. But if I can find a game “like wow pvp” that is less gear dependent I would have to give it a try.

My bad dude I totally missed out on the fact that you were from Classic. I’m too irritated and focused on retail to see that sometimes, and I just woke up. Yeah thats pretty bad.
Hold out until the Horde v Horde queues again my man
