Ion already explained things perfectly yesterday. Check it out. If that answer isn't sufficient I have to start questions whether people want a functioning game or just a time machine.
The compromise he mentioned will solve problems when its needed then go away when its not.
No one who actually cares about the health of the game should be upset with that.
Especially when he talked about their philosophy on things like the debuff cap.
Horrible logic.

So, using it during the AQ opening gates event? Destroying the entire feeling of the event, due to sharding? I think you didn't play in Vanilla at all...
"A Treatise on sharding in Classic WoW" would be a good next watercooler update, i reckon.
Ion & John Hight were pretty open with their reasoning at Blizcon. That's a fantastic sign - and we appreciate it.
Similar transparency going forward sounds like the best way to deal with changes -- like sharding. Changes in any process are tricky. Simple changes require big gains - or the cost outweighs the benefit and we have bad results for devs & end users. The unfortunate economics of IT.
Let's continue to iterate on sharding with the devs and CMs. (And guys -- from the chats so far, the Classic dev team are open for feedback)
If a change like sharding sets the game up for success in a big way, I think that's something the majority of the community could accept. But not before we explore all the other options (Realm size, future realm mergers, spawn rates, queues, etc).
Once more progress is made, it would be beneficial to test a few of the popular options in an alpha. As long as the testing and thought process is visible - the majority (albeit not all) of the community will have proper expectations.

I hope the community will get used to sharding, especially if the game is full. Then as it lightens up and shards get spun down we can work out the community later.
There’s going to be a lot of competition for limited resources otherwise. From just a limited game time demonstration, quality of life things like multi tapping quest mobs and faster respawns will probably be a larger issue in the short term after release. I’m sure the developers will look forward to all of this feedback as we move closer to release though, hopefully beta will be released soon.
Composed from my iPhone if it isn’t entirely grammatically correct.
Edit reread in progress
You 2 are clueless as hell.
Just stick to BFA and leave Classic alone thx.
Sharding will destroy classic, the point of classic is COMMUNITY and sharding ruins community. Please Blizzard don't allow Classic to go live with sharding.
I agree completely. Community starts to develop relatively late in the game, keep sharding out of level 20+.
