Only reason to nerf the strider is because “I dont like the strider”. Its too easy to just treat it like the sky golem.
It really is that simple.

Blizzard has been gunning to nerf the strider for a while. This whole convoluted system was created to do just that
And just buy doing that, it is easy to predict what is going to happen after that?
Oh, the future looks so glimmering.
First, they removed flying. Then, reduce air even remove portals. Now, nerf mounts. Next, flight masters. Mark my words.
All I can say is… enjoy your mounts and flight masters while you can; chances are they’re next to be removed because “we want you to immerse in our work the way we want you to, and you’re going to like it or unsub”.
They’re nerfing a mount, not all of our mounts. If the trade off is that my alts can run across water without using that ugly bug, I’m for it.
I feel like I understand both sides of the argument.
Working towards something for a singular purpose and then Blizzard changing what you were working toward feels crappy. It would make sense to treat the Water Strider the same way they’ve treated the Sky Golem.
But thats not seeing the other side of the coin
I remember Ion saying that he doesn’t like it when a mount is so good it feels like the other options are bad. He wants to change the Strider so that it isn’t the be-all-end-all of mounts. With Barding (or being in tank) it is by far the BEST mount to use in non-flying zones (with some QoL exceptions) . Can water walk and anti-daze? Resounding Protection works until it takes too much damage.
So on one hand. You have the people rightfully complaining that they are removing something they worked to achieve. On the other hand you have Blizzard who want to remove the power of the water strider.
Probably didn’t help that a ton of people where basically laughing at them because the boat didn’t float. They already think the Water Strider is a mistake. Can you imagine the backslash they would of got if the Boat could float? Hell I could. Having to pay for a 6-month sub for a water walking mount? GD would of roasted Blizzard alive for that one.
So if they add Water Walking to other mounts like the current Strider. Blizzard are doubling down on something they don’t like. If they don’t add Water Walking to things then they get mocked at. Damned if you do, Damned if you don’t.
If they gave the Water Strider base Water Walking, then Tanks would benefit the most. They have innate anti-daze, the Water Strider for water walk and use the Glider Mount Equipment. Other people would just use the Strider for Water Walk and use anti-daze equipment for all there other mounts.
Water? Strider
Land? Anti-daze favourite land mount
The issue that they want to fix (Strider being just too-good for a mount (Blizzards View)) hasn’t changed. I’d imagine not many people would use Water Walking equipment and just stick to the Strider and use Anti-daze on everything else because the Water Walking equipment would be kinda redundant if there’s a mount that gets it by default.
I feel like I’m playing Devil’s Advocate a little here. I personally think the Strider should be treated like the Golem and even tho I don’t like it I can kinda see why Blizzard has opted this route instead.
Except its not. It is only is a zone that is majorly water and there is no flying.
If we can fly, its not the go to mount.
If there is no water, its not the go to mount.
If I am a DK, its not the go to mount. I have path of frost.
If I am a Shaman, its not the go to mount. I have water walking.
If I am a druid its not the go to mount, I have instant change forms that are quicker and fit my class feel.
If I am an alchemist, its not the go to mount, I have water walking potions.
However, If I want to pick herbs, I have a go to mount - sky golem.
If I want a transmog, I have a go to mount, my yak
If I want a repair, I have 2 (maybe more cant remember) go to mounts
If I want an AH, I have a go to mount.
The water strider is only an issue because someone doesnt like it
You must not be caught up… they said it’s 40g per character… so that 1k gold is not even a value to debate. And you never had anti-daze as a permanent thing before as an option. You’re trying to complain about a completely new feature to give you perm anti-daze and somehow tie it into the a complaint about losing an automatic WW mount? C’mon. Gaining anti-daze has nothing to do with Waterstride losing it’s WW’ing at base because current system has no ability to gain anti-daze.
I don’t know how you ever got there as I was never pro-Pathfinder. I think that system is stupid too and I’ve made several posts to state that. So what’s your point here?
I see many players complain about their “water” walking mounts, yet forget there two classes with unique water walking abilities that allow them to walk or mount on water, Shamans and Death Knights; I guess priest can someone fit here, but unable to mount. The problem is that those unique abilities wont be unique no more. Maybe for some who main Shaman or Death Knight before/after the water walking amount, the ability was/is unique unless they had/have alts who needed it. At least, from what I’ve seen, you can’t have both daze and water walking. This will still help Shamans and Death Knights, in a way of being unique, because players can just use Daze equipment being under Shaman and Death Knight ability effects, but then again it screws over Leatherworkers who can “craft” and make money from this, considering how bad the profession system already is. They should’ve added boats into the game instead of this, since we see boats already.
If you want to complain about your mount, they may as well take warlock summoning stone away since we have a Summoning Stone outside dungeons/instances. Take away Mage portals completely since we have them in major cities and Devs want players to visit desolate and useless zones. Hey, take away Druid travel forms since we have land/water/flying mounts. Take away Mage food, since you can go to a vendor and buy it. Shoot, take away bloodlust and timewarp since Leatherworkers can make Drums. Take Demon Hunters glide away since Engineers use gliders, etc. Complain about all those things that were unique, and we can have a discussion.
Yes, there is a difference - there’s no difficulty whatsoever involved with getting either of the striders. Both are pure and predictable time sinks, nothing more.
Exactly! and that someone has been trying to get rid of its ability for a long time. What some people do not understand is how dangerous it can be to be silent about this nerf.
Sure it sounds good on the surface, however, it also opens the door for them to change the mount equipment to be area specific, xpac specific, or remove that particular one. It also opens the door for them to do this to other specialty mounts.
But that ain’t no big deal… until it happens.
I think this is a nerf… a minor nerf, but a nerf. If there was no strider nerf, striders would keep their innate WW ability and be unaffected by other equipment effects like our dear harvesting machine.
Still doesn’t change the fact that with the current proposed design for the Mount Equipment it makes it a net zero sum change for players with the water strider.
Along with the fact that it’s also a missed opportunity to have it be so much more. Think having the Mount Equipment per mount or type of mount.
…another good option to tone down the “over use” of the waterstrider would be to not design zones with many tedious patches of water to cross…
Thats the only reason the strider is aparenly the only used mount by everyone
Well :
People wanting this system as it is are not realizing how expensive this will end up being. Few people will end up just paying the initial (atm on PTR) 40 - 50 gold per alt.
People who also want this system are not realizing it is killing the altaholics. Gosh, it feels painful.
It’s done PER CHARACTER So you will have to buy the glyph or whatever (and the DISCOUNTED one is 40g each) for EVERY CHARACTER. If you have a lot of characters, it’s a lot of gold and micromanagement compared to just leaving the water striders alone.
Im fine with it.
