Good god, yes. All. The. Time. It may be a non-issue for you, but it’s an issue for me. It adds one kind of choice by taking away another.
Every mount can already gather while mounted. Unless you herb for like 140 hours then the golem was already a “waste” of gold compared to the stirrups. Even more of a waste of gold if you are double gatherer since you had to dismount for mining regardless.
It adds a minor inconvenience that still gives solutions all the while enhancing gameplay for Max level players that had no solution except waterstrider or bust.
The improvement for the player base is greater than the inconvenience you have.
Just what dks needed to be even more irrelevant, now we have even less utility with everyone being able to walk on water. .-.
Everyone can already walk on water. Also shaman provided the buff as well.
In other words we don’t matter as long as it benefits you.
I wrote this in another thread, but I might as well post it here as well…
It’s a good system that just isn’t fully realized, but it’s not far away either. This system has incredible potential for RPG immersion, but only if it is realized. Blizzard can create a deep system that gives us some customization, player agency and reinvigorate Mount Farming with just one “simple” addition…
Here is my suggestion:
Mount Traits
Well… more specifically Mount Traits + Mount Equipment .
For example:
Vicious War Steed: -10% speed, immune to dismounting from Player damage in friendly cities and battlegrounds.
So maybe I really like the idea of being immune to dismounting for a slight cost of speed with a Vicious War Steed, but I’d really like being able to Water Walk for BGs like Arathi Basin. This is where Mount Equipment gives us choice with Inflatable Mount Shoes to give water walking to my Vicious War Steed while being immune to dismounting in my random BG.
Now imagine mixing and matching your Mount Traits with Mount Equipment and the depth of gameplay immersion and choice that would give players…
Currently, the Mount Equipment is planned to use a gem socket-like system that applies to all mounts. I would keep that as an option, but these sockets could also be also applied to specific mounts that would override the main socket should you choose to apply Mount Equipment to that specific mount.
I recognize it would probably be easier to give traits according to mounts families (horses, wolves, rams, etc.) I would advocate against that, however, as it doesn’t provide as much flavor and RPG elements to the game as individual traits would. Horses, for example, there are like 50 of them. It would be better to have unique traits for each of them instead of 1 for all of them.
This makes mounts more than just a skin. It adds a flavor, RPG elements and minor gameplay benefits for players active in World Questing, Leveling, Battlegrounds and War Mode.
Now many of my suggestions are Passives. Activated abilities (i.e; Sprint, Trample, Pounce) would be very interesting and reform how mounts work in WoW, but that would require a substantial rework that would be more inline with an expansion than a patch. Therefore I will leave Activated abilities out of the suggestions as they would be far more difficult to implement…
Here are some more Mount Trait examples. To highlight differences, I’ve paired similar mounts below.
Bug
Azure Water Strider: water walking in MoP zones, CC immunity on water.
Crimson Water Strider: water walking in WoD zones, stun immunity on water.
Horse
Stormwind Steed: Humans +10% speed while riding.
Vicious War Steed: -10% speed, immune to dismounting from Player damage in friendly cities and battlegrounds.
Core Hound
Core Hound: Immune to environmental Fire damage.
Steelbound Devourer: Immune to environmental Chaos damage
Frogs
Blue Marsh Hopper: +10% speed for 5 seconds after jumping.
Yellow Marsh Hopper: +15% speed while traveling over marshes and swamps.
Boars
Giant Coldsnout: Can gather while mounted on snow terrain.
Domesticated Razorback: Food buff duration doesn’t decay while mounted.
Gryphon
Golden Gryphon: Reduces Dwarf fall damage by 50% when dismounted.
Grand Armored Gryphon: -10% speed, +5% experience gain for 10 minutes after mounting in a friendly city.
Phoenix
Ashes of Al’ar: +15% speed during daylight, -10% speed during the night.
Dark Phoenix: +15% speed during the night, -10% speed during the day.
Sorry, but I’m going have to disagree with you there. I have Mining on my Pally and if I started mining on the mount that I mainly use which is that dragon mount from Karazhan, and I automatically dismount.
Again, not removed- equip the shoes and you can walk on water. But wait, you want an additional ability? Anti-dazing? You just said you can easily get around without water walking, so why is there a need now for a second ability? So water strider can continue to be dominant over all other mounts?
Guess what- over the years BASELINE ABILITIES have been taken away for certain classes/specs. Mounts shouldn’t be immune to that as well.
Why does it have to be one or the other? Because it’s not just me who sees this change as an inconvenience. As plenty of folks have been saying, the easy solution is to let the water strider keep water walking but prevent it from benefiting from other mount equipment items. Then folks like me who don’t care about the mount and just want fast and easy water walking can use the ugly bug and other folks who’d rather have the ability on all mounts can use the character wide all mount water walking option.
That’s terrible logic. We shouldnt lose abilities at all, especially if something calls itself an EXPANSION. They need to expand on abilities, not limit them.
As long as they take something away from us Blizzard will be happy, so this might work.
I can gather on every single mount in the game with a stirrup on. Also never get dazed with resounding protection. This is a straight up non-issue.
Hell this water strider nerf is so good let’s expand it further. Remove flight from all the mounts and add in a piece of equipment to let you fly
Please, no.
Use literally anything with a shield. Boom never get dazed. Resounding Protection or if it is specifically your warlock just take the perma 15% max health shield talent.
“Coming in Patch 9.2!”
Wrong. It was removed and the only way my WATER WALKING MOUNT can walk on water LIKE IT ALWAYS HAS IN THE PAST, is to use an equipment. But if I use something different, OWAIT! It no longer has its base ability.
You didn’t read. I specifically said the water strider shouldn’t benefit from the equipment.
Which has always been poor and crappy decision making.
Doesn’t mean my mount should be nerfed.
It doesn’t dominate anything. The equipment should be a bonus for every other mount.
Or did you miss the part where they disabled the equipment on the sky golem? Particular reason they couldn’t do the same with the water strider?
You don’t really have an argument here when the sky golem was addressed correctly.
We earned the ability to have 1 mount, on all characters, to water walk with - for FREE.
To maintain this - we now have to pay to have the equipment on all our characters.
If they treated the strider like the Sky Golem - I don’t think there would be any issues.
So if its not really improved functionality and also requires rep and currency then why devote development time here?
