We don’t get paid to complain, either. Think of it as volunteer work.
Blizzard’s stated purpose was to spark conversations amongst the community. That is what is happening.
For my part, I generally ignore that whole council. Much as Blizz will until they do something bad enough to get removed. I haven’t clicked on the council section since the day it came out. I have no interest in reading the ravings of a hand picked sycophantic echo chamber.
Some Council members politely solicit input from the broader playerbase to bring issues to the Devs they might not be aware of.
I am not sure where you go that idea, but you are not correct. Some of your misperception might be based on the rules I stated for the MVPs groups.
MVPs are required to select one posting character and stick to it. They don’t care if we use a main, alt, whatever. Just that it does not change over time. I selected this bank alt in 2013 because I did not want to be pestered in game. I also don’t always use the same main. By now, it is what people on the forums recognize me as. It also lets Blizz track my post history without any extra work.
Council was allowed to pick any character they wanted to post on. They were NOT told to select a “new charcater”, an alt, or given any rules at all. The characters chose were totally up to the CC member. Some are EU so had to level a new NA char to be able to post on the forums hence some of the level 10s. Many did link their mains over on EU though in their Intro post.
I really am not sure where you go the incorrect information but hopefully that is sorted now.
I was going off of what was said by Prosident in a live interview, If I was wrong so be it. But my main point is everyone has right to have their view heard. NOT just you " council" or someone that post 560 times.
So someone that could have picked a character that had zero post’ hemm
The PR stunt has caused more harm than good divided the player base and has accomplished little so far.
It hasn’t accomplished much as we were approaching the holidays and the council is not yet fully formed. There will be more people added in the new year once the Blizzard CMs and Devs return from their holiday break.
I expect we will see more accomplished at that time.
Are you kidding me, jack? I will give you a well known name - Mirasol. I saw your name alot on these forums.
I don’t recall any personal history between us. So that means we haven’t triggered each other. You seem generally helpful and distant/removed/above most of the drama.
I was kinda glad you got picked. A familiar and regular forum poster is what should be there.
So good on you.
I didnt apply. Many folks did. I dont hate the councilors. I just find the whole thing disgusting. It is like Blizzard confirmed they want nothing to do with their own Forums, and only want to hear from the council.
More lies. (kidding)
Yeah. I think you are a good example and representative of the council. At least from what I see in GD. I have seen you post for years, it seems, and you have been pretty helpful.
And I am choosing to remain optimistic. I’m sure Blizzard is well aware that previous attempts have not worked as intended.
I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt that they have learned; and it’s good to see so many blue introductions on the forum. So yes. I’m hopeful that something will come out of this.
I do wonder though - as a question to anyone reading this - what would it take for you to consider the council a success?
we need a downvote for the council forums
said it before a bunch on collaborators that will tow the line afraid of losing some preserved power or honor
A HUGE circle jerk
If we’re talking about Blizzard taking action based on player feedback, then we have every reason to be optimistic. We’ve seen many changes or adjustments made based on player suggestions and feedback.
This is actually something that bugs me. Obviously the Blues posting in council forums are incentivized, right? Which means they just couldn’t be bothered to interact with the community before hand?
There is no realistic metric by which the council would succeed. You’d literally have to have a suggestion thread in the council forums talking about something that needed to be implemented, have it be implemented in game, and have it be wildly popular. I don’t see that happening.
Realistically I feel like the council will make suggestions and the game will be nudged in directions, probably to good effect, but the community won’t attribute those positive changes to the council. The loudest voices get the most attention and credit. General discussion is still the loudest voice for better or for worse.
If we can post, we’re obviously a paying customer and our account is is good standing, that means our opinion is just as good as the people they picked for their cool kids club.
All Blizzard did was create a clique and I’m not sure what their motivation was.
Blizzard upper mgt Legal and PR policies prevent the Developer Blues from interacting with nearly anyone or saying anything at all for fear of repercussions. Mostly things that might spawn rumors about game direction and rock the stock markets.
That is my take anyway. Anything they say has to be approved first. Just randomly posting in GD would be an open door to someone saying the wrong thing and causing drama.
I wish the Community Managers at least would engage in a more natural way so people did not think they saw a unicorn if one answers a basic question or joins in on a cooking/off topic thread. Those things build comfort and trust without giving away game topics. BUT they get a ton of criticism for not"addressing the core issues". CMs don’t have any control of the core issues, they just relay feedback, run promotions, do news/notes, etc.
The whole thing is frustrating and Blizzard has a poor track record of handling communications overall. Likewise a poor track record on moderation. Too many things that are pretty vile stay up for hours or even days, despite being reported.
No, that’s an interesting thought. I didn’t consider that. I hope it’s not true but I think it’s probably possible. I don’t know of any job that doesn’t at least coach its people on how to interact with customers or the public.
