I recently started leveling my Priest, and quickly changed to Disc after seeing how terrible Shadow feels.
Disc is great! It may be weak in the meta, but it’s such a fun spec! The only issue I have whilst leveling with it is how long it takes to kill things. Enter: Dominant Mind.
This is probably the most fun ability in the game, in my opinion, and gives a lot of flavor to my character while leveling, as I play around with the various abilities of different creatures. Why, though, does it need a 2 minute cooldown, when I already have to deal with the mob attacking me after it wears off, inevitably in the middle of a fight?
Blizzard has ALWAYS hated the Mind Control ability. I recall fake barriers being made in Battlegrounds to keep you from walking people off ledges with it (despite Shamans simply thunderstorming an entire team off), and putting ridiculous limits on it to keep it from ever being viable in most content.
This needs to end, and this talent needs a buff prior to Shadowlands! We healers deserve at least one good leveling spec, and I think any of the following would go a long way towards that:
A) Make it a toggle. It lasts till the mob dies.
B) Increase the time the mob is controlled.
c) Decrease the cooldown to 1 minute, from 2.

why would I ever use mind control when it only works on one mob type, needs a talent so it doesn’t disable me too, has a long cooldown, and does crap damage
it could be so cool but it’s not remotely, and while your suggestions would help, I don’t really think they’d do enough

The talent IS what I’m talking about. It makes a great leveling or WQ tool. Or at least, it would if it wasn’t so restrictive, thanks to the dev’s hatred of Mind Control.
This could be an incredibly fun talent to make Disc leveling more enjoyable when SL comes out, and it’s reasonable to suggest so.
If they made dominant mind baseline for all 3 specs and reduced its cooldown it could give priests some much needed utility.

It’s reasonable to suggest so, I don’t want you to get me wrong, I just think it needs more than that to make it solid. My post was more griping at Blizzard in how the talent is entirely built around “how can this not be exploitable” (which is an important dimension) and not at all around “how can this be fun to play”

Don’t see how its any different than DK’s enslaving undead mobs in dungeons.
Yeah, only thing difference is that it would work on other mob types. Warlocks can also use enslave demon for similar purpose (at least i think they still can if they havent pruned).
Sort of. I found it helped me level as Disc, but the benefits were barely outweighed by the negatives.
Why should any talent be left worthless, especially when priests need more utility?
Yeah it’d be great if priests could clutch enslave key humanoids in future mythics for sick util.
The crazy thing to me is they already have good versions of this spell in the game, and neither of them are talents.
Death Knights can mind control an additional undead minion, and this can be quite powerful in M+ for them. Warlocks can enslave a demon, and this too can be quite powerful for them.
Priests of all specs should have Dominate Mind as the baseline version of Mind Control when cast on PVE targets. It would help Shadow, Holy, and Disc in M+ environments to be able to subjugate a strong enemy into our party. The same way that Warlocks and Death Knights can.
