Doing a Lot Out of Spite

Have you not seen the interviews? They get visibly annoyed when people ‘play the game wrong’. I don’t think they’re malicious, but I also think they believe their way is the right way and won’t listen to any other input until it becomes a serious problem.

A whole lot of that is because they don’t have enough creativity to create new content.

They are making their jobs easier instead of trying the make a game that is fun.

It’s not malicious. And you nailed it on the head. At the end of the day its the game developers vision and they want to see that vision realized. If they listened to half the crap that came outta GD the game would be an abortive mess that’d be begging you to kill it. Think Nina from FMA. I’m not saying that every decisions been right but its 1. not malicious and 2. done according to a plan and when that goess udders up they try n fix it.

I’ve been playing Blizzard games for a long time. They have a history of implementing something they think is best for the game, or something that will deliberately slow progression, to extend playtime.

Players will typically not like most/many/some of the systems/changes. Blizzard will double down. Players will start to get really annoyed. Blizzard will triple down. Player metrics start reflecting player dissatisfaction. Blizzard will partially back out some changes. Players will reluctantly accept it as “it could have been worse”. Player metrics will stabilise somewhat.

I guess what Blizzard fail to understand is this constant (and consistent) behaviour hash left a permanent tarnish. I don’t feel the same way I used to about Blizzard products any more, they aren’t in it for gamers and gamers themselves … they are now at the mercy of accountants and a bunch of e-gamer chasers - that have turned a great legacy in to just another game developer / publisher.

D IV may or may not be great, but, D III was a typical blizzard “this is best for the game!” cycle, and it wasn’t until they went back to basics and re-designed it to be a GAME that it became a game. I’ve found coming back to WoW after an extended break to be the same old same old … Torghast and the Maw are awful game design and systems, which they will EXTEND (and slightly player friendly) them, but, so far, they’ve just made us suck them up. Gearing and gear drops are shocking, especially for an ARPG, but, its taken ages for them to even come to the party about improving, and we still haven’t seen their full solution for it. History repeating.

Many of us have behavioural disorders that make us prone to the kind of manipulation wow uses. It is almost as if they are taking advantage of a vulnerable population.

I think a case could be made, once filed, during a legal discovery process just might uncover internal memos where they’ve mapped out the manipulation of these vulnerable folks using high end phycologists, social scientists, and others.

Now we know where the QA department budget was spent?

If that is the case then it is the player’s fault for letting them take advantage. There are very few people with behavior disorders that completely lack enough self awareness not to know there is a problem.

I hate this the most. This never used to be a thing. I felt like all through vanilla to wrath they had a plan, a vision, and they stuck to it and built to that vision. It was like a 3 part progression that made sense.

Now we have these jarring resets after each expansion because the dev team wants to pull these shenanigans. It’s as though the dev team has zero forethought. Whatever new system they need to justify will be created by artificial problems they create (hence the blizzard monkey paw is born) and the vicious cycle invented.

I’ve loved this game a long time. It’s past time for implementing major changes to improve player satisfaction.

I don’t think you have a good understanding of obsessive behaviour, most folks with a problem are quite aware it’s problematic, yet their particular disorder makes them prone to impulsive behaviour.

The solution would be painful, wow would have to only allow a limited access time per 24 hour or weekly. Of course they won’t do that however for the same reasons loot boxes are illegal in some places.

Yes but there are ways to ‘fix’ some of that, the person just has to recognize the problem and seek help to do so. If they fail to make that effort, then they shouldn’t go around blaming others.

this is pains me as nightborne main, for the longest time we gave feedback on our existing problem yet ignored, probably they will use us a backup plan to buy a newer expansion… it just saddens me

This is correct.

Ion was promoted to Assistant Game Director in 2015. WoD, the worst expansion, came out in 2014.

In fact the only good thing about WoD-the raids- were designed by a team lead by Ion, which is probably why he was promoted in the first place.

The problem with this is the vulnerable find out too late and the damage is done before they can correct it. So yes, he does have a point.

what damage would that be - spending a lot of time collecting items because you have ocd and must have every one?

Here is something else spiteful: Oceanic players asked for an item that makes it appear to be midday because normally they have to play at in-game night.

Blizz added an item for that… for the price of Ten Timewarped Badges per 2 hours. And those two hours are cut short if you die.
