I was riding around mining in epl and every person that i encountered was a boosted 58 player. Seeing store bought mounts everywhere and the retail like game engine and graphics have just killed that classic vibe for me. This game has already turned into retail 2.0, im sure they are working on more additions to the cash shop rather than the rampant graphical and gameplay bugs. We knew this company was the not the same one that made tbc and classic all those years and we asked them to keep their modern $$ features out of our game, but somewhere along the way we caved and let them ruin wow all over again.
There is a famous quote that im fond of, “those who dont learn from history are doomed to repeat it”. That is what has happened here. Where did we go wrong? How could we let them ruin wow again? I’m honestly so very sad, after a good couple of years of classic i was hyped to play the greatest expansion of wow in its authentic form. That ship has sailed, this is retail 2.0 and its all our fault.
On the bright side, dreamhaven is working on a game and lots of ps4 single player games have been ported to the pc. Enjoy whats left of this game i guess
Pretty sure everyone knew from day 1 of regular classic, that tbc classic was doomed as well (based on how poorly they ran vanilla classic). Not much you could do about it, other than unsub.
The boosted characters and store mounts are more visually distinctive than the people that dungeon boosted to 58 and bought tier gear out of MC/BWL/AQ40 GDKPs.
It very much feels like retail. It has that exact same instant gratification feel to it that is the antithesis of what it should be. That is also exactly why there is such a strong push for fresh servers with no cash shops or transfers.
So to clarify, what’s ruined the game for you, is other players getting to experience content?
Nothing has been ruined or changed. You just dislike other people getting to enjoy themselves. You’re whining about nonexistent doomsday scenarios involving Blizz adding more cash shop when in reality, all that’s really happened is they added a means to get people a singular character leveled enough to go play upcoming content. That’s all. None of this will end up affecting TBC(other than there being more players initially), which has yet to even release.
No, Because what defines the difference between retail and Classic is actually the design philosophy of the game, not the monetization. The Item shop got started all the way back in WOTLK and even before they used things like TCG as ways to get silly items and mounts into the game and to think they wouldn’t do that to Classic BC is silly and I’m fully expecting them to go even further when it comes to the release of Wraith Classic as the store was already there in wraith.
For the game to be retail 2.0 they would have to massively change the design of the game by utilizing cut scenes in questing as well as linear storytelling, Changing the maps to be less open-ended and more like rooms connected to corridors. Scaling every zone to your level, Having end-game be a weekly check list and etc. You can dislike the way they implemented monetization which is perfectly fine but it’s kind of silly to say it makes it like retail unless that also makes every other mmo on the market which cash shops like retail wow.
The bugs with the shadowlands engine that have been reported on for months that were ignored and now placed into classic is ruining it for me. Its just absolute laziness. Blizzards response for shadowlands failure was to just rollback gpu drivers and never actually fixed it and people in retail wanted to defend the decision. Now its in classic and the rollback doesnt work and they are acknowledging the issue but saying they wont guarantee a fix. I find that to be BS.
same.
seeing this bought mount everywhere
easily obtained lvl that literally removes 50% point and content of the game
easily obtained something without gold.
next patch they gona add more pets and mount in the store just watch
they need to bring the retail ppl somehow in this game and get more money
and retail players eat thit bs gladly sayin HOW DOES THIS CHANGE THE GAME LOLKEKE
indeed how does it change that less ppl are lvling \ u dont need to grind for gold for mount etc
If it was multiple boosts per account, sure, we have a problem. Here we have 1 boost the 58 with bad gear that forces you to atleast do some content.
As for the mount, who cares, it’s a cosmetic mount that doesn’t change the game in anyway. Is the attunement process affected? No. Are classes being homogenised? No. Is there LFD? No. Is the only content just a raid once a week? Nope. The fundamentals of leveling are still vanilla/TBC era. People boost, sure, but that’s a player made problem that people figured out how to do. Can blizzard nerf boosting? Yes. Should they? Maybe, but people get made at even the positive changes so why would they.
The only reason the boosts and CE mounts seem so prevalent at the moment is the timing. We’re in pre-patch, aka the BC waiting lobby, so a lot of folks don’t really have much to do outside leveling their little boosties and working on their professions (since you still have to grind that out). The CE mount is everywhere because it’s brand new. Once we roll into BC and people start getting their flying mounts, you won’t see many lizards around anymore.
And I’ve no idea what you’re talking about in regards to the game engine. If you want this to look and feel like BC did back then, feel free to dust off your dial-up modem and old CRT Monitor I guess.
There was an overwhelming backlash against boosts when they first were announced, the people who are left quitting because of the boost still resonate in people who play now who really want to play TBC in the most authentic way but are [Edited by Blizzard] by retail systems.
It’s not really our fault, Blizzard just doesn’t listen.

This is the exact scenario that resulted in the creation of the #NoChanges movement for Classic Vanilla. This is why a big part of the player base pushed this demand back then, and this is the results of #SomeChanges now…what blows my mind is the large majority of the some changes players will be gone within a few months of TBC launch. It’s a sad state of affairs my friends and it’s only going to get worse as we move forward.
Broken record, but the one thing Blizzard can do is simply release a fresh server or two. Obviously disable boosts and transfers…if only for say 6 months or so, since they probably can’t do it forever. That at least gives new players (which Blizz seems to want to attract) an avenue to join the game without being at a severe disadvantage. And it offers anyone else the chance to start over under the same circumstances. It’s authentic as well. Blizz was constantly adding fresh servers throughout Vanilla and TBC and even into Wrath. You could make the argument they ended up adding too many, and I’d probably agree. So that’s why they start with like 1 pve and 1 pvp for each region. The demand clearly exists, and it continues to baffle why they haven’t done it.
Blizzards inaction during classic allowed the playerbase to ruin the game, coupled with their fostering of an environment that promoted those same players ruining the game.
There is a reason why retail is not as good as classic or TBC, I know that’s my opinion but its an opinion shared by a chunk of the player base. Hopefully they don’t change much, as for the boosted chars, if you want it then go for it, its not exactly pay to win but its something close to it.
