Does Scarcity make loot “Meaningful”?

When I play the game now it feels like all the loot I get outside of the vault is meaningless. An upgrade of 3 ilvls doesn’t feel meaningful to me. Add in that gear barely drops in dungeons and it feels very elongated power gain curve.

The dungeons were also made to be slower. All of this taken together and the game feels very slow and very weak. Dungeons aren’t meaningful they are slow and grinding.

If better loot and gear was more available from traditional sources it may make the game feel less grindy because we won’t feel so weak.

I know the mythic dungeon and raiders won’t like it since others will be able to enjoy the game but maybe it’s time to think about a wider audience.

Based on this comment, I have to assume that you’re talking about normal/heroic dungeons?

Come on now…lol. You’re not supposed to get good gear from those. Thats stepping stone content to the real end game.

No I am just saying that maybe lower content needs a boost. I know that any kind of help given to the masses is fought hard against by players who do the highest level content

It has more to do with the condensed RP stats, and overall staleness of the dungeon/raid end game 20 years later, than actual scarcity imo.

Like having 4 different versions of the same trinket is probably the least scare it’s ever been, but also the most meaningless.

But you dont need “help.” The dungeons drop the gear that you need to progress…just like every other linear gearing system.

If you get better gear from the bottom vs. the middle/top is disrupts the whole design…there is a reason no game does that

Doesn’t it need help? Participation in mythic plus has cratered and slowing the power curve just keeps people too weak to start participating.

No. Because neither normal or heroic dungeons provides gear for M+…you’re skipping a step. After heroic dungeons, you move into LFR, M0s, and higher level delves. Those give you gear to move into M+.

Also, M+ participation always craters. Its actually not that bad % wise compared to other seasons.

I’m saying maybe it should provide more meaningful gear

Raiding is actually the worse source of gear in term of quantity.
Delves are 100% drop per player on bountiful with a key, M+ is 40% drop per player, Raids are 20% per player.
Raiding is also a very traditional source of gear and it’s mostly by buffing raid drops for loot and crests that you can make content feel less grindy as it’s the less repetitive content.

Like how delves gear gets you past all the entry level m+?

Half true, arguably to catch someone up in a rush you gotta funnel them mythic gear from raids to skip the mythic plus time gating via weekly chest.

The 2 best ways to gear right now is the vault and crafting. Funneling in raid can only get you so far with group loot and funneling is the not the main way to gear up unless you mean getting carried/boosted is the main way to play the game.

Assuming you can do a high enough level. You have to be able to do a tier 7 bountiful delve to get the same end of dungeon loot as a +2…

And seeing how the OP is complaining about normal/heroic dungeon loot, I dont think thats applicable here

OPs not complaining about difficulty, just pacing.

Delves are over regarding gear for how easy they are

It’s just a you issue my guy.

Scarcity is very validating for the Neckbeards.

Fundamentally making something scarce makes the no lifers happy as they will have the scarce item and the casual player will never have it. The hardcore always seem to derive joy from the knowledge that others don’t have said scarce item.

The game developer challenge is to make the game feel rewarding without alienating large portions of the player base by making it either too hard or too grindy.

The forums tend to have a much higher percentage of Neckbeards than the actual game does.

Absolute truth. When I say certain wow players base their self worth on their pixels, this is what I mean. Well said.
