Hey guys, I've been trying to collect some of those rare mounts that drop from raids and I always tend to run it on Heroic 25 man if available, at least 25 man if heroic is not. Now I have a quick question...
Does the heroic mode or 25 man difficulty have an effect on the drop rates?
For example, lets just say I am trying to farm an Invincible from ICC. Are my chances greater on 25 man heroic than on 10 man normal???
Just an innocent question, trying to reach the 150 mount breakpoint, I appreciate any help people can give me in discovering this. (BTW, sorry if it is in the wrong section)
Mimiron's Head - Has to be 25 man (heroic wouldn't change anything, Ulduar worked on activated hardmodes not flipping to heroic) and 0 lights to even have a chance to drop.
Invincible's Reins - Has to be 25 heroic LK to even have a chance to drop.
Those are the 2 pre-requisites to even have a chance at those. Every other mount like Smoldering Egg of Millagazor off Ragnaros for example; it makes no difference whether its 10n or 25h.
Invincible's Reins - Has to be 25 heroic LK to even have a chance to drop.

Thank you for the response. Can somebody else confirm the second part of this?
According to wowhead numbers, there's some slight variations in drop rate in various difficulty modes and sizes, though this does fall into tolerable variation just with RNG, with a few notable exceptions:
1. Experiment 12-B doesn't seem to have any recorded drops in anything that's not 10 normal. This may just be a reporting error.
2. Lifebinder's Handmaiden seems to drop notably more often in heroic 25man (43%) than heroic 10man (29%) player mode. This may still be reporting some numbers at the 100% drop rate though, as back then there was the chance for 25man mode to get multiples.
3. Reins of the Blazing Drake drops signifigantly more often in 25man (12%) than 10 (4%), and it also seems to drop slightly more often in heroic than normal (14% and 5% respectively).
There are slight variations in drop rates on various other mounts than those, with difficulty and raid size seeming to have a slight effect, though they're under 1% variations.
If it's equally as difficult to do it in 10 or 25man mode for you, or in heroic compared to normal, you might have a benefit in doing in the larger/more difficult sizes.

wowhead data might not be accurate, i dont know when they refresh data, but:
some bosses had 100% drops of a mount in heroic difficulty before falling to like 1-3%, and that might still be clumping with data after-the-fact

I actually explicitly mentioned that in #2, the only one where it'd be relevant that has a signifigant drop variation. The other two specific mounts didn't have any guaranteed drops in heroic, which is why noting them as unusual variation in different difficulties is potentially relevant.
Like I said, Wowhead data is potentially subject to reporting errors, as it only tracks data with the relevant people using the addon, but it can suggest something is off.

I could be wrong, but as far as I know the Smoldering egg is a heroic only drop like Handmaiden or Invincible.
Smoldering egg was ~1% normal, but guaranteed on heroic-- while the content was current; until it became baseline ~1% drop across all difficulties later on.
Can you do the 10 man normal clear to madness then switch to 25, like in ICC?
I did that for Throne and also for Dragon Soul with a friend. We did 10N up until the final bosses, then we separated and did our own 25N fights.
all mounts that drop have been normalized to a 2% drop rate I just wanna know the minimal raid reqs for mount drops. id like to farm some CATACLYSM mounts not icc mounts so if some1 can verify the raids drops for the cata e\xpac and whether or not they need to be done on 25m or heroic or both that would be awesome

Correct me if I'm wrong here.. But blazing drake does not drop in heroic (lifebinders does) therefor.. Wot?

Heroic Madness requires every other boss killed on heroic in order to do it.

Blazing Drake can drop for any non-LFR difficulty. One of my guild's last kills before Mists was on 25H and had 2 Lifebinders and a Blazing Drake drop.
Gotta ask something since I haven't seen anyone post this yet. Since there is more loot on 25M raids, doesn't this make the drop chance for the mount higher in a sense? Since it can be one or more of 5-6 items instead of 2-3 items.
Mounts are always on a seperate loot table from boss loot.
Example. In 10 man Madness, 2 pieces of gear will drop NO MATTER WHAT as well as a chance for an essence. the mount would be an additional item in the loot, not a replacement.

you can but you cannot switch it to heroic for a chance at the lifebinder unless you did the whole raid on heroic. Thus unless you do heroic clear every week you cannot get it
you might have to change difficulty to the dunging
I saw two mounts drop at same time in 25m, so I always farm 25 m
Is the drop rate rolled per item dropped however? Or do mounts exist on a separate loot able?
For instance:
Epic A = 1%
Epic B = 1%
Epic C = 1%
etc
OR
Epic A = X Chance at Non-Mount Item
Mount = 1%
If it is the first option than yes Heroic 25 would have a higher loot chance of mount (if it can be dropped). I can confirm from a Game Master that Handmaiden drops only 25H and Blazing drop only in Normal Mode.
Lich King must be done on Heroic 25
Ulduar can be done on any 0-Lights
I will look into Experiment on Normal
