Does Covenant Choice matter for casual players?

Hi, I am a casual player. I largely Roleplay, Level Alts, and do callings and dailies, and find joy hunting transmogs. This is my WoW niche.

Being that I am not into progression, does Covenant choice really matter for when I am doing my daily WQs, etc? Or can I just pick whatever I feel the best aesthetic is for my character?

No it doesn’t. Your covenant power will not make or break your spec in a noticeable way. In any sort of casual field you can pick and play anything you want, it’s all good!

As long as you don’t pick maldraxxus or prot Paladin you’re fine. It’s so bad guys
 its so, so bad.

Pick what feels the best, only problem is when you switch specs and find certain abilities not so fun for other specs. If you only go for aesthetics then that’s fine too.

Is there a way to find which covenants feel more natural play wise, without consideration for progression?

I’d say in that case go with whichever one you think you would have fun with, wether it’s skills you get,or wether it’s the cosmetics, covenant gear sets.

Go with whichever one tickles your fancy.

Unless you are in the top 1% guilds or going above +15 keys then covenant dont matter in the slightest - my main EU account is NF fury warrior and although i havent really done m+ this season, by all accounts its irrelevant

It doesn’t even matter for heroic/early mythic raiding and KSM in mythic+ so of course it doesn’t for your playstyle.

I think you can try them during ‘threads of fate’ when you first go into Oribos upon leveling a new character in Shadowlands, other than that not sure how you’d know which ‘feel better’ to you or are more natural. Depends on the class/spec really.

Not sure how to do so if you’ve already chosen one or you’re at max level honestly.

It does not matter for what you are doing, then again, nothing really does.

However, folks need to stop peddling crap. If you are playing some absolutely worthless stuff, you will be denied from groups once you get check pvp’d.

That would come down to some research. Research the covenant abilities and how they interact with your rotation - After that decide which rotation you enjoy most!

For me, I went (Hunter) Venthyr in SL simply because I have a bias for single target dmg; and I enjoy how the kill shot procs enter my rotation. As a feral on horde side, I much prefer the intensity of Convoke w/ leggo to reduce its cooldown to 1min.

I sorted most of my toons into whatever Covenant seemed most fitting for their character. Some happened to be meta, others not so much. Unless you are super competitive I wouldn’t even worry about it. And worse comes to worse you can switch!

At some level yeah, but virtually no one is checking your legendary in most mythic+ or casual raid pugs.

Do you personally inspect and check everyone’s legendary in every pug and cross reference it to wowhead guides to make sure it’s the right one?

Or their conduits?

Or their talents?

i swear nobody check covenant , legendary .

Unless you are the last pick and they want x covenant for x dungeon or do +20 keys

Yeah that’s the only time I’ve seen it come up.

And it’s solely to get the dungeon effect from the covenant. Nothing to do with how the covenant works for the spec.

in 9.0 i was doing ‘‘high keys’’ and people did not care about covenants

the only spec where people were crazy about covenant and had focus , was holy paladin because ashen was so broken lol

it was game-breaker

For capabilities, no. You’ll be able to do anything you want regardless of the covenant. For the casual player it’s all about the flavour. Most of my characters are Kyrian due to their backstories and personal relationships. (I also love having a little owl friend as an assistant.)

Things like mounts and cosmetics are reasons why a casual player may want to try a bit of everything.

It matters very little on your personal performance. Where it WILL matter is in the perception of those you group with, so you may want to do some research on if the people you group with perceive it to matter.

Not really.

Each covenant has a different “look” to its abilities. If you’re just doing RP, you may want to keep that in mind though.

The only thing that it matters to is the Mythic “First” players. They always need people to be at their “Best” in any possible way they can find.
