Depends on the covenant and class. Some powers are so bad that there’s no point in taking them under any circumstances. But even then, if all you’re doing is WQ and hunting cosmetics, no, it won’t really matter.
What you were looking for is to level up by playing the campaign. Threads has you lock in a covenant at 50. If you’re doing the campaign, you get each cov ability when you are questing in that zone.

You should pick what suits you, but in all honesty? Covenants should of been a cosmetic thing and should of just given us basic stat boosts that are all the same for all 4 Covenants, no matter what spec/class. (Signature Cov abilities are fine)
I hope they never do this again, or at least not have it so that it gimps certain classes.
You aren’t locked in during Threads of Fate. If you return to Oribos and talk to the representative of the Covenant you wish to switch too while leveling through Threads, you can.
Casual play choices really don’t matter
Not really, if all you want to do is the covenant quest line it’s all cake. The only one that is remotely challenging is Bastion because it has a dungeon I loathe lol.
Only with the renown 80 achievement.
You can test actually all of them before you pick them in Oribos and you don’t have to wait until you’re at a certain level to reach the abilities. It has been this way since before renown 80 was even a thing. Incorrect as usual.
Testing things on a training dummy is different than using it vs an actual mob.

Back tracking again I see, I don’t think they ever mentioned specifically needing to test on mobs did they? Nope. No specifics mentioned, just needed a way to ‘find the ones that feel more natural play wise’. Since they already (Manually) leveled to 60 through normal and got to see all the abilities for their character I presume they already know about getting the abilities on their way to 60 so I gave another option that doesn’t require you to level through 60 in the awful campaign stuff all over again.
Nope, pick the one that suits your playstyle, has the nicest mog or you just like the most.
It doesn’t necessarily but playing a warlock that isn’t night fae feels like garbage because the extra mobility from Soulshape makes a big difference. It’s funny because night fae feels so contrary to the warlock class fantasy; I think most warlocks would prefer to go necrolord or venthyr, or maybe they’d want to be ironic and go kyrian, but night fae makes the least sense and yet is the best one
- You’re assuming that they are only testing DPS specs. You can’t use a training dummy to get a good sense of how to use your abilities as a healer, and it gives less useful info as a tank.
- saying that I can use this on a dummy, it’s just the same as dungeons or raids is the same as saying that driving around an empty parking lot is the same as driving in the city or on the highway.

Not much of a way to test that on mobs solo either, if you really want to get ‘technical’ about it.

maldraxxi and guardian druid… now theres a combo written’ down in history mon! de be the purpose in me to keep on tanking cuz i be healing myself in those emergency situations with more than just the beary (some say bull) rage i have… also healer as far as i know mon, can not look at bosses cast and clicking on me to heal at the same time.
