Does anyone actually know the Dr. Boom mechanics?

There seems to be a stun with no telegraph and some sort of big damage hit that also has no telegraph? I know there’s an ability that targets a certain player and they should run it out. If that’s the stun it seems to have a much, much, much bigger radius than the ring around the player.

I’ve basically just become one of those players that stands at a distance and, like, Jade Lightenings the guy, which is lame. If I could see his abilities then it would be fun to get in there and avoid them. But since there doesn’t seem to be any sort of telegraph or cast bar it’s just, like, why risk it?

So, does anyone else actually get the abilities? Are there telegraphs I’m just not seeing somehow? What is the stun and how do you avoid it (other than lamely Glaive Tossing from the sidelines). What’s the huge damage hit and how do you avoid that?

This is the case. Just move yourself to the very opposite side of the area from where someone places it. Thankfully, the stun doesn’t 3-shot you anymore.

I don’t know of a huge damage hit, but I haven’t done it on a melee character.

Mech… what? … I know not that of which you speak…

No, but I haven’t done the fight since this past Tuesday.

That might be all of the problem I’m having. I haven’t been insta-gibbed in days so maybe they’ve fixed that. But it was like ‘Stun out of nowhere and dead’ for awhile and that’s why I moved to the edges. I’ll give fighting it right a shot today and just stay waaaaaay far away from that player targeted ability.

I see swirls or circles, Vengeful Retreat becomes my bf.

I run out of giant red circles, and I think I maybe saw an add spawn once, but beyond that I have just resigned myself to the fact that I’ll occasionally get stunned for no apparent reason.

Lucky! I wish one of my abilities would be my boyfriend.

No idea about any of the boss mechanics. My very first portal was lagging like crazy, I died, and I was punished with no loot since I wasn’t around to tag Dr. Boom.

Every other kill I just stood a mile away and used any possible range attack to tag the boss and keep my distance.

It stopped restunning you until you died? Huh, didn’t know. I stopped doing the event on anything but ranged.

Nah it still does sometimes. Copped it a few times today. But at least it’s not every time!

Pretty much what I do now. I’ve actually died after being stunned repeatedly for 15 seconds.

I think that only happens if you’re hit with it back to back. I’ve only taken damage from it recently when that happened. But if it only hit once, I was fine.

The only “mechanic” I’ve noticed is the ash bomb, which is the big red circle that seems to have a randomly larger area of effect than it’s visible marker. (I’ve been at times just outside it and not affected, and other times several yards away and still been stunned; no way to predict)

If you’re the one the marker is on, you have a few seconds to try to drag it away from everyone before it activates. (or into the middle of everyone as I’ve also seen folks do)

Other than that, he has a “throw dynamite” attack that I’ve not been able to discern the affect of, as I don’t think it has ever hit any of my characters.

These are the mechanics that I follow:

  • If targeted for the ranged attack, run away from the boss and others.
  • If someone else is the target, run away from them.

Don’t know if there are any others.

People know it to troll now unfortunately.

My mechanic is to stay at the edge, spam moonfire, and rejoice in the TENS of points of damage I do, and try to not get outright murdered.

My Druid is only 60.

They have mechanics? I quite literally just fired my lazers at them for the first time. I just thought they auto-attacked.

It’s absolutely stupid for Dr. Boom to have a CC ability with no easy telegraph to spot in a crowd of 40+ people, that is spammable and kills you quickly.

I just made sure I was always standing behind him. It seems the stun is a frontal.
