There are little boom bots he drops, but they die almost instantly from random splash damage unless it’s a really small group. I’ve been wondering what they do, but have never found myself in a position to be able to test.
I’ve only been hit once by a big attack. I was in the middle of a giant crowd on opening day, unable to see the ground, so it’s hard to tell what was going on. The combat log said it was a sequence of half a dozen rapid hits from bombs all doing the same damage (I thought it said acid, but makes more sense it was an ash bomb and I just misread?).

Wait, did they make Dr. Boom do less damage?
He marks someone for an AoE attack (Ash Bomb, 3s cast IIRC) with a range about 50% larger than what’s shown, just move out. The actual bomb takes about 1.5s to land, but I haven’t tested how range affects the travel speed.
If you’re the one marked, you should move out of the mid and then move out of the AoE ring + 50% to avoid the stun + dmg (around 50-70k per tick, ticks 2-3 times seems to be reduced by armor). You die if you get hit by by multiple bombs back-to-back depending on your ilvl/stamina.
If you’re the target and you can drop combat (Shadowmeld, FD, Invis etc.) you can cancel the cast like a faux-interrupt and avoid the mechanic entirely.
He also summons 2 bot adds that instantly die to cleave damage and has a 1s cast of Throw Dynamite that does some damage and does not break the disorient from Ash Bomb.
Good luck on getting your 1283979th sarge pet.

I think this happens if someone gets caught in the fire bomb that someone needs to take out of the group. If it gets taken out and no one gets caught in it, it’s fine. Someone gets caught, probably everyone withing 30-40 meters from where they are gets it.
It’s a pretty bad fight if you’re lagging because of a lot of people.
But, oh well. Take a couple deaths and fly back to loot it.

People don’t care about mechanics, just watch where your going and where the stuff is going only way to survive.
there’s a big red circle
if you’re in it or near it, you get disoriented
Yes. I tag it once, stay far away and spam heals on everyone else.
Then watch no bag drop again for the 12984376th time.

The thing about that mechanic, and most mechanics in general, there’s not enough time to perform it properly. In this case it’s if your in melee, you can’t get it out of the group fast enough and subsequently people can’t get out of the drop fast enough.
It’s like they test it single player and know they’ll get hit with it. So it’s easy to get out of it. But in large multiplayer situation where you’re also paying attention to all your aura’s and builders, have to take time to figure out if you got chosen, have to take some time to find an empty place to run, it gets dropped on players almost all of the time.
And those people it gets dropped on, they’re dealing with all the same things plus not knowing what random direction whoever has it decided to run. So they get stuck in it almost all of the time.
So it comes off as a shark jumping unfair mechanic.
