I have two level 30 characters in WotLK classic. I want to give the first character’s name to the second character. I’m not against deleting that first character to make the name available in a way that works.
I dont want to end up losing the first character’s name if i just delete it and go through with the name change process right away. Could someone explain to me how this could work out?
When the realm started, i got a name a friend wanted. I deleted that level 1 character and let him have the name, was available immediately. Is there a certain level where this is the case for classic too?
I went looking, but the only mention I can find is from an article on the name-change service, and it just says that the name will be unavailable to other players for 90 days – no mention of character level.
Had you ever logged in on the level 1 character you made? I don’t know if that might have caused it to bypass the 90-day lock or if there is indeed a level threshold that isn’t mentioned.
I tested this - I made a character and logged in, killed a couple mobs, logged out and deleted it. It was right away available to be used on someone else’s account. So it might be a level thing.
Maybe the safe bet is to name change character #1’s name and then name changing #2 to it. I get to keep my levels and inscription research, lol.
I believe that the level where the name gets locked to a battle.net account is level 30. I’m going to see if I can find the info to back that up, but I’m about 98% sure that’s the right level
It was never 2 years. Name release from an inactive account is 2 expansions (about 4 years). Name release from a deleted character would depend on it’s level.
Just noting that the two expansion rule only applies to Retail at current. I think it was Vrak that had pointed out that Classic iterations have no name release policy and that GMs were hands-off even then.
