Do you think Riot's MMO will be a WoW-Killer?

Overwatch hasn’t been relevant for literal years and Valorant is one of the biggest shooters to exist right now.

Oh wait you’re serious. Let me laugh even harder.

Well, technically, Ion is the WoW killer.

Personally I feel that if they have a decent amount of races and classes… then it could be ‘the next WoW’. I mean, LoL has a massive fanbase as is…

As for whether it will be ‘the WoW killer’ or not… the only game I think could’ve claimed that title was Everquest Next. And I’ll stand by that for the rest of my days.

I mean does anyone want to be king of the small pile of dirt known as MMORPGs? Literally League does what 8x what WoW did at it’s peak?

There will be no WoW-Killer because honestly what major AAA studio is going for a game with 3 million subs? League has about 100 million daily so why worry about a small pile of dirt? They’re looking to expand the market into their playerbase.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they develop their mmo primarily for mobile and/or console. Risking it all on a PC based mmorpg could go badly given established mmos like WoW, FFXIV and ESO.

all that is left of blizzard is an empty husk of what it use to be. everyone of worth left blizz already. The only people left now are Corporate shills.

It definitely has potential to be a competitor on par or surpassing FFXIV.

It will be coming off a already expanded universe which is still growing, similar to what WoW had coming from WC3. It’s no coincidence that WotLK was peak WoW.

It doesn’t necessarily have to “kill” WoW, but be popular enough to challenge its number 1 spot. Good lore matters in your fantasy MMO.

I will still always look forward to where WoW will go, but Runeterra in a MMO setting would be a breath of fresh air for me.

I think the biggest holdback in most MMO’s is two main things that wow seems to have an edge on.

The camera which I think gets overlooked a lot is something wow has had on pat for a long time. Something about a lot of other MMO’s camera always feel super shakey and janky when moving around, everything from how characters jump to rotating everything around feels jerky. It’s always really jarring playing other mmo’s and not having everything buttery smooth. Maybe it’s just the animation style but that’s usually the first thing I notice.

The second thing, which wow is having a terrible time with right now is end game content, it seems like MMO’s plan the whole game around leveling characters and don’t account for the community that’s going to smash through that and want a some hard end game content to do.

I’ve heard that final fantasy online has some end game content but on a personal note I don’t like the lack of race variety. People give wow races crap for all being humanoid but at least you’re not going to run into those other races during your everyday lives. Final fantasy has a race that’s just basically children lol. Maybe it’s that I held the bar too high from playing the FF Rpgs but the art style of the in game play feels really far behind what I expected from them. Maybe it’s just a limitation of the medium with so many players and to each their own in that regards but I would love to see another MMO like the one riot is working on, surpass all the other MMO’s in quality.

I enjoy wow and a lot of aspects of the game, but I’m also hopeful someone can set a new bar for them to chase as well.

I think the main problem here is the end game is literally a repeatable wheel but the problem is if you can’t find players to play with on the wheel. MMORPGs of the future from almost all Triple A studios are going to have a MMR mode added in so players don’t have to sit around.

Ask again in about 5 years when they actually have something to release.

That might be coming this November,

WoW is coming in with “You waited 8 months but now you can do more maw stuff and Choreghast, and here’s a maw raid and maybe were gonna call it after 9.2 because reasons! Also that maw stuff might have to tide you over for another 8 months.”

And FF14 has a new expac coming with 2 classes and a lot more stuff.

It will be interesting to see what happens.
5000g says they “coincidentally” release BT or Diablo 2 on the same day as FF14s new expac, because Reasons.

Warhammer killed WoW.

Can’t kill what’s already dead. I mean dead on the inside, of course. People are still subbed and always will be, but the spark of life is long gone.

I heard Warhammer killed wow like 6 times.

WoW took battleground XP from Warhammer.

Also

WoW needs to increase battleground XP.

No I don’t think it will kill wow. The only things that will kill wow are the company making some super horrendously bad choices or the players becoming increasingly more toxic. At least this is how I see it and my opinion.

Myself,I am waiting for swords of legends, looks pretty cool

Pretty much this.

You won’t be seeing the Riot MMO for years. They are a massive undertaking even for someone with their resources. WoW will probably be on expansion 11 at that point and even by their own admission probably only have 2 expansions left before they call it a wrap.

Hopefully Riot’s MMO is successful and reinvigorates the genre. That’s pretty much the only chance people have of seeing WoW 2 at this point.
