I think we need to stop looking at other MMOs with the intended goal for it to be a WoW killer. If anything is going to kill WoW, it’s WoW. And they’ve been doing a bangup job in recent years not only within the game but the company as a whole.
I’m messing around in BDO rn with friends, but at this point I’m waiting on Ashes to come out.
Most of the people singing his praises here weren’t even here when he was with the company. And since those interactions he had with the forums are gone (with the old forums) they don’t know how he actually was and how confrontational and antagonistic he was with the community.
Probably not, you can’t just kill a 16 year old MMO, and i doubt League of Legends players like mmos, they’re completely different games. I think it will also have a big cash shop (Because it’s riot, but it could be wrong), so i don’t think WoW player will move to that game.
Remember that Valorant didn’t kill CS:GO and Overwatch was dead before it came out.
That’s not true. You can’t say “oh I’m so tired of Ion’s careful lawyer speak” and then complain about GC being straight forward on his views.
Ghostcrawler’s problem was he often openly theorized on the forum about the direction of the game and that got him in trouble. But he was almost always polite.
What are you lot talking about? WoW is dead, being fed intravenously from classic.
All the FOMO in the world won’t save wow if the whales leave. That guy who just boosted his 45th toon? He’s keeping the lights on.
Wow has evolved (devolved?) to the point where only the razor thin edge of content is meaningful in any way. This is all fine and good when you keep pumping out new content to a decent cadence. It’s not MMORPG good, but it’s “online game” good.
But now, blizzard has angered the cracked out mobile gamer crowd along with the RPG fans, and they haven’t even addressed the elephant in the room.
“Tell them the lich king is dead and [World of Warcraft] died with him.”
Let it die with some dignity. World of Ghostcrawler, Ashes of Creation, and/or New World are all body blows coming down the pike, with Endwalker looming, as well.
Wow is not positioned well to weather this storm like they have for other coulda beens.
At what point did I even mention Ion in my post? Making up a quote I didn’t say is pretty pathetic.
He openly fought with anyone that didn’t agree or challenged his views. What are you even talking about. You obviously were not around during his time.
Riot Games got a lot of Blizzard developers there including GC. There’s going to be some WoW similarities in that game. However WoW already been killed by itself so why beat a dead horse. WoW is literally a undead on life support which is very ironic to say, but I said it so there.
No game will ever kill WoW.
Other games run off nostalgia alone. Gen 1 Pokemon still has a competitive scene. Everquest still gets expansions. And even if, for some insane reason, the servers do shut down… well, I still play Toontown Online - people don’t let these games die. (…except Wildstar. But they’re working on it.)
Will WoW be dethroned? Yes.
We’re seeing higher social media metrics already for Final Fantasy, and it’s actually worse if you discount negative social media presence from that. But no single game will actually do that as well; people playing MMOs are now split between them more so than in the past due to the variety and actual quality in them, and as more and more larger IP’s break in and actually get decent or even amazing games going, people will lean towards the ones that they enjoy/feel an attachment to.
Elder Scrolls, Final Fantasy, and surprisingly Star Wars are all doing good right now. Riot coming out with something is going to pull people from all the MMOs, and I can actually see it taking the #1 spot /if/ it’s well made.
But most MMOs are absolute garbage cash grabs, so I’m honestly not holding out much hope. Especially if they try to force e-sports on it. (This is one of the worst genres for an actual competitive scene.)
I think it’s way to soon to even tell if it will be half decent, I havnt seen any new info or even a screenshot on how it will be besides them announcing it…
But I think as more new mmos release I think it’s always healthy competition, atleast it should reignite the fire Blizzard once had!!
So be the riot mmo a huge flop or success I hope it drives the passion back into WoW once had.
I think it’s win win for consumers, if it’s great, be a good mmo to play for a change of scenery from WoW.
