I don’t think any MMO that comes out will ever be as successful as WoW. The only MMO that’s going to kill WoW is going to be WoW itself & that’ll be due to the discontent between blizzard & the player base. Really the only way an MMO that “kills” WoW will happen is if it’s original & shows us something we haven’t seen before.
I’m looking forward to what they put out, but no, it won’t be a wow killer. The market does not exist for that in this genre. WoW was and still is an anomaly.
If Riots mmo passes it, it’ll be because wow sunk low enough to mingle with all the other mmos, not because it did something outstanding.
Ashes of Creation is the only upcoming MMO that might hang with WoW.
I hope so. Blizzard, ion and all them have all but given up it feels like. Time for wow to die and something to take its place
I don’t know if we will see a time where WoW becomes a niche game
But with new world, ashes of creation and then the riot mmo coming out and if wow keeps on it development track then it will be more like a whole bunch of little things breaking into it and stealing its players
One of two things will happen, WoW will see that they are losing players to a variety of different games then up their product to draw people back or they will send it into a death spiral by trying to suck as much cash as they can out of it and people will actually have other decent games to become refugees in
However if everything else sucks I’m playing WotLK until they break that some how
It really depend on your definition of “kill”, from X million straight to 0 is impossible (even Heroes of the Storm isn’t technically dead), but League MMO taking another slice of WOW playerbase is inevitable.
WoW will not die, what most likely happen is that the game & the team will get downsized the more playerbase is taken away by other MMO.
When are we getting an Everquest killer?
No /10. characters
I think WoW will be the only WoW Killer since it’s already killing itself in terms of losing good features and etc within the game.
No.
People who still play WoW are too invested. You can’t kill WoW with another MMO. WoW will continue to lose its godlike status among MMO over time and will eventually become more in line as just another polished MMO (which people may argue against but go play some of the unpolished ones and you’ll come running back to WoW), but the genre is too saturated at this point that no MMO will likely ever sit on a throne again.
Overwatch is dead af
We’re kind of there already. Hyper endgame and competition dungeons with scores. WoW is an MMO Looter with high customization these days.
Current RP focus is mostly window dressing, though I respect the efforts that Shadowlands has made in trying to reverse this. The covenants have a lot of interactive options and dialog in the open world and dungeons…that are totally ignored because they aren’t loot, and they interfere with the Go! Go! Go! and that sweet DPS the kids rave about.
Pretty much.
WoW is essentially PvE Smite at end game.
There’s zero information about Riot’s MMO…not even a name. It will be years before it is released.
no.
i think AoC has a close chance but besides for FF14 really not much that compete. i mean story wise and stuff like music FF14 already got WoW beat the issue for me with mmorpg’s today is the combat system. take for example ff14 the gcd is too long and when looking at AoC it looks as if it would play like ESO which to me the combat feels clunky af. both are different compared to WoW though in the sense WoW is tab targeting and those two i think would be considered action rpgs?
in the end though i think WoW will just continue to get worse and worse to the point people leave for good over the years. classic will only carry for now so much subs ( old and current players ). you get bad track records to a single individual you start losing customers.
people forget that this game is based on an individuals opinion. if im paying for something that i do not like i wont continue to purchase it. everyone has different wants and needs as well.
the way i look at it tbh is like my job. started off good and now it’s getting so bad to the point idgaf just too much bs to deal with that are unnecessary and for the pay not worth it either. so yea i could literally walk out and not care; they would replace me easily anyways so it rolls both ways.
Wow will cause its own slow death as it progressively gets more and more monetized and keeps adding dev value systems instead of value for the players
The only WoW killer will be WoW at this rate -original joke.
But in reality, no. WoW will never truly “die.” If they keep going in the direction they currently are, it’ll absolutely be less popular and will be much harder to recover, but it’s never going to truly die.
riot is probably gonna have just as much of the micro transition “issue” just as much as any other modern mmo will. it won’t kill anything imo, but i think it will be popular
If the game has dungeon and raid content on par with WoW and they don’t restrict, punish and limit their players the way WoW does - I think a ton of players will make the switch.
Even with Micro transactions, this will probably be an excellent game.
