Tank gear, healing gear, dps gear, do you need on it all. Or just the gear for your current role in the party?
Same as shamans apparently. Everything is fair game, including daggers.
Hybrid Specs need multiple gear because they don’t do much tanking or healing outside the party instance.
I typically only roll need according to my spec. If I really want something and everyone has hit greed I will ask the group.
True. I’m hotw/ns. I heal in instances, but need dps gear when I’m solo farming out in the world.
You don’t play a spec, you play a class.
A mage NEVER rolls based on whether he’s frost, arcane, or frost.
A hunter never says “im looking for survival gear”
Druid is a CLASS that is able to fulfill multiple roles, and can do so, up to a point, by employing different sets of gear. If you aren’t doing so, then you are deciding to restrict yourself to 1/3 of your class, in a way that a DPS class never does.
All that +healing gear does nothing for a hybrid class when grinding mobs for gold. DPS only need one set of gear because outside the party they just continue to DPS.
Raiding, yes, you will need to define your spec because your guild will likely have rules about what can be rolled on. 1-60 though, hybrid needs multiple sets.
Honestly, DPS should have more sympathy for hybrids because they actually need to have multiple sets while DPS can get away with 1 for the most part.
End game - spec for sure, during the leveling process then anything is game. I guess Druids need to make it clear at the start of a group - like any class.
Like other hybrids just let people know or check that its ok to roll on offspec. Otherwise, roll on your current spec.
That’s not true at all, i don’t roll on fire spell damage as a frost mage. And survival is also a ranged dps spec for hunters, this isn’t retail.
I’ve noticed that another problem is that because of the poor stat itemization on items in vanilla compared to burning crusade+ a lot of items will have stats like say, 6 agility 2 spirit, or 12 strength 3 agility, or 9 intellect 2 strength etc. And it sucks because it’ll be a blue upgrade that will last a class like ten levels and surpass all quest rewards, but people who benefit from the lesser stat, like the 2 spirit roll need and win it instead. The sillyness of this is that just about any green item from a quest or the auction house would give the same amount of stats, but they win it over someone who benefits from the major stat on the item.
Like yeah we get it, it’s fair game if you can use it blah blah, but it seems like common curtesy and a little common sense would tell you to just greed on it instead. Like, dungeons help a lot with getting back out there afterwards and doing that quest against mobs a level or 2 higher, and you just took a very small upgrade at the expense of a major upgrade that probably would have made someones day, because not all of us power level all day, some of us only gain a couple levels a day due to real life jobs and responsibilities. It won’t just be vendored an hour later for us, we’ll use it for a week or two.
Yeah, and I don’t roll on anything with shadow damage.
Really isn’t the point when what you do in fact do is roll on anything with more INT or spell power on it. Then, even though it says spell power OR healing, often complain about all these healers taking DPS loot. There’s threads on this very forum with DPS complaining about that.
and I never said survival was mellee, I said a hunter never says “not for me, thats marmanship” - they just roll whatever gear gives them an upgrade. Hybrid specs aren’t doing anything all that different from DPS specs - they are rolling need because they actually do need those items.
A further example of what I meant in my post: There’s cloth shoulders from SFK that give like 12 intellect and a meager 3 agility. If I’m on a rogue or hunter I’m not gonna need on those dang things against a spellcaster for that 3 agility because there’s a bunch of green items that same level that give better stats, and that spellcaster would probably use those shoulders till like level 35, that’s like ten levels.
That makes no sense, i don’t take healing gear, and you shouldn’t take dps gear as a healer. Because any healer piece for that slot will be better. Healing is cheaper itemization wise.
As a paladin I roll need on any item that I can equip until my bags are full. Then I make the group wait while I hearth back, put it in my bank, and return to the run.
It makes perfect sense, especially when the exact same item says +spell power OR +healing, making it both something for DPS or Healing.
This is what I mean, DPS just want a monopoly and ignore the healing component on an item, or the fact that healers, like casters, also use INT.
BTW, this is why blizzard later changed spirit and made it something healers wanted, to better differentiate DPS and Healing gear.
In Classic WoW, casters and healers often share items on their BiS lists.
You should really only need on gear for the current role you are filling in the dungeon. Unless everyone else greeds and they’re cool with it.
So if you are a druid and not healing, don’t roll on the healing gear. If you are a paladin not tanking don’t roll on the tanking gear. It’s simple courtesy imo.
As a mage focusing on FROST; I don’t roll on +fire items. If someone else needs it I “Let it go”
Agi gear is fair game for me but anything with int/healing is OS since i’ll prolly never use it
So a rogue, if he isn’t speced for daggers, should pass on all daggers?
Your choice is as a frost mage is also vastly different from the life of a hybrid from 1-60. Who does a hybrid heal outside an instance? Who does a tank for, when they are not in a group? They don’t - they become DPS players.
I’m talking 1-60, outside raiding.
Where are they supposed to get that DPS gear from?
Why do they have to use vendors and the AH, unlike pure DPS classes?
I’m a Warrior and i roll on pretty much everything except cloth. I never bring paladins or other warriors to my dungeons and only ever bring rogues/druids/hunters unless there’s no gear i need. Since I’m tanking clothies are usually fine with competing against eachother for loot because they dont want to wait around for 30 minutes for a tank.
Warrior life is pretty baller yo
