Do you know anyone that "enjoys the journey"?

Leveling is my favorite part of the game.

Not really looking forward to it myself, but he really wants to play it. Folks don’t even know how much of a struggle BC was lol. The grind was real :weary:

The journey is enjoyed when

  1. Talented writers are used.

  2. A rewards system is employed.

This company doesn’t care about that anymore. They are dedicated to squeezing the last few pennies they can out of variably loyal playerbase focused on endgame e-sports, who gobble up some meagre content then unsub until a future content patch is beta-d or released. It isn’t a sustainable model, nor is it intended to be one.

Yes, a lot of people care about the journey. Thread closed.

True. However, the quests all over wow feel the same way. What i’m talking about is more stuff like the instanced quests during the various major questlines. I would prefer more of those while leveling (think saving Baine from the prison in BFA etc etc) compared to the awful zone quests we always get. It’s just wasting time, building xp slowly in ways that often feel repetitive and boring.

I enjoyed the journey up through WotLK. From Cataclysm on, Blizzard gradually eroded it into non-existence. I don’t blame you for hating the Shadowlands journey. It’s degenerated into a game of “hurry up and grind.” Going from level 1-50 in a matter of hours doesn’t feel like much of a journey. Trudging through a handful of disconnected zones with the goal of convincing the NPCs to focus on the questline that you’re actually supposed to care about wasn’t fun the first time around. It only grows more tedious upon replay. I think you have a good point regarding Torghast. Doing it ad nauseum is about as much of a journey as spending hours on end driving in circles on a roundabout.

Not so much after I do it the first time around.
Leveling alts is more about getting it over with especially with the options being on-rails questing or running the same 4 dungeons a lot.

For context, I never used to get characters to the level cap until WoW. I had 1 in City of Heroes, and that was a couple months before it got shut down. I think I have two in DC Universe, but have many, many, many other games where I have no characters at max level.

When I hit the current max level, my primary urge is to go play another character. I often feel done with that character, until I realize that I haven’t finished the Garrison campaign, the Class Hall campaign, or now the Covenant campaign (4 of them, compared to the 12 Legion ones). BfA was different, because they tied Allied Races to the campaign, so I made sure to do those while they were current. The rest, I ended up doing some time during the following expansion.

One of my gripes is how we have to repeat the Covenant storyline/campaign on every single alt. In Legion and BFA we just hit max level and jumped into the endgame, for the most part.

I have now replayed the
full Night Fae storyline/campaign 8 times (…and it’s about ~5 hours per alt). It’s a noticeable timesink.

To say I have “Night Fae fatigue” would be an understatement, it’s just so boring and mind-numbingly repetitive :weary:

More like torture than a “journey” lol

I enjoy having things to work towards. If I finished too fast I wouldn’t have anything to do in the game, especially now when I’ve hit most of my goals on my main.

I don’t consider these part of the Journey. These are end game grinds. No more and no less.

Leveling and exploring the world are the journey. Generally, I enjoy the journey but in this game, it gets old because there is only one path to travel through each continent. They need to have 10 times as many quests in every expansion. This would allow multiple paths for multiple characters. This would add value to the journey.

Unfortunately. WOW isn’t about the journey and never will be.

Huh?

But…we already have that?

Sure pandaria and onwards have an ‘entry quest’ you have to do, but after that there’s nothing stopping you from going wherever you want on that continent, and every expansion pre-pandaria doesn’t even hav the entry quest.

Heck just Kalimdor/EK would take at least 10 characters to finish with no repeats now that leveling is so fast.

We don’t really… Maybe you can delude yourself into thinking that. Each expansion has enough quests to reach max level. No more, no less. The original game was better but it was never continued into expansions.

The level squish changes this a little but only for new players. Still the same old path for repeat players.

I’m not ‘deluding myself’ lmao. Have you leveled at all recently?

I just did pandaria from 15 to 50 and I didn’t even finish 3 zones before I was nearly done.

And like I said, there’s so many zones in EK/Kalimdor there’s no way you’re doing all of that on one character. Not even 3 characters.

It sounds like you aren’t creative enough to make your own path, if anything. You don’t even have to do the same expansion the entire time, get creative friend, bounce around and do what you want. There is no ‘linear path’ to leveling anymore.

Why would I want to level in Pandaria when I have done so over 15 times already. As both horde and alliance? What new path is there?

I’ve done every quest outside Shadowlands on this character. Including every quest on Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms during Vanilla. Leveling my 15 characters through Shadowlands will take the same exact quest path for each of them because the alternative is a time-consuming nightmare of world quests.

Maybe not for end game, but there was mad dashes for game/realm/server first achievements that used to be announced game wide for leveling/crafting.

There have always been mad dashers, even in vanilla/tbc/wotlk

Where did I say you had to level in pandaria? It was an example.

Get creative, bounce around, make your own path. Do a few zones in Kalimdor/EK that you like, then go up to northrend if you want, that gets boring? Go to draenor or legion. There’s so many options for you to make your own path during leveling right now, more than ever before.

I think your actual problem here is that you’ve already done everything, not that there isn’t any choices to be made, because there’s more choices than ever during leveling at this time.

Broken stories are worse… Shadowlands should have 10 times as many quests. If I want to level all 10 levels in Ardenweald doing quests (as I said in my original post), I should be able to. That is a journey.

We’ll just have to agree to disagree because I want more quests in every expansion. You don’t care.

Blizz should.let us complete the campaign chapters while we level our alts. I hate running through 9 chapters of drudgery after slogging through the 50-60 grind.
