Do you honestly think stat squish is needed?

Per the interview at Blizzcon from Ion, stat squish is expected for 12.0/Midnight expansion. This would be a fourth

Do you think stat squish is really necessary?

Three times it has happened: Warlords of Draenor, bfa and Shadowlands

In MoP everyone has around half a million to almost a million in health

In Legion we were doing hundred thousands in healing and damage, along with million of health

Bfa everyone had half a million but a stat and level squish became mandatory for Shadowlands

Here in dragonflight it’s happening again And war within we would be once again having high digits

Do you honestly think WoW would been fun doing millions of damage similar to Path of Exile play style

No, they need to use some smart design where you don’t ever need a stat squish.

Neither yes or no, I don’t care either way. The numbers popping up on the screen are irrelevant, only the numbers in the meter and the logs matter lol.

I mean, we alreadly have bosses with HP in the BILLIONS and players with HP in the millions…By the time we reach 12.0 we will definitely need a stat squish

They should stat squish us, the players but leave existing stats alone for NPC, rares etc. The challenge is what players want.

It wouldn’t be needed if Blizzard would stop with the ridiculous ilvl inflation.

The overnight 200 ilvl jump from one expansion to the next is the worst offender. But they’ve done it every expansion since Burning Crusade and will keep doing it.

Then they clutch their pearls and scream HOW DID THIS HAPPEN!?!?!?!?!?!?

Well, I can only speak for myself, but I feel like smaller numbers are more impactful. When I’m playing darkest dungeon for example and you’re hitting for like 10 damage and suddenly one of your guys busts out a crit for 50 and annihilates an enemy, I’m like the Joe Rogan ufc fight reaction meme.

When I’m playing D3 and millions and billions of damage numbers are flying all over it just kinda becomes background noise. Same principle applies for WoW.

Just to give an example of absurd ilvl inflation:
Sepulcher of the First Ones, Jailer - drops ilvl 285 gear
Vault of the Incarnates, Razsageth - drops ilvl 424 gear

So 140 ilvls from one raid to the next?

What the hell for?

I don’t want to hear about “the numbers are too big” or “we need a squish” until Blizzard gets over their ridiculous addiction to ilvl inflation.

Needed? Not since they moved past ancient programming limitations which is literally why they had to design Garrosh back in SOO to have phases that involved him healing back up because his health pool otherwise exceeded what the system could literally work with.

But I rather numbers stay sane. People who want “big numbers” can just have a cheat aura or addon display it (and maybe even with dramatics like “OH MAH GAWD ELEVENTY BAJILLION DAMAGE!!!”

this will just mess up OLD raid farming like the last stat squish did soo if they are going to do it they need to make sure they do it correctly this time

The only reason old raids get screwed up is because Blizzard, for some stupid and/or odd reason, stopped giving us the promised legacy buff tuning once content reached more than 1 expansion old.

They basically just count on us outgearing it but an actual passive legacy buff giving us 1000% bonus damage in legacy raids should be something like an intern knocks out in a few minutes.

I don’t see why they bother. Why should it matter if a stat starts at 100, 1,000, 10,000, it’s all relative.

Because they always mess stuff up during a stat squish.

I guess. I wasn’t messed up by the squish, they just seemed to go from numbers like 100 to numbers like 25. Everything moved down together. I may have the scale wrong but it appeared they just divided all the numbers by something to make them smaller.

To me it seemed silly but hey, it wasn’t a big deal.

They seem to know how to adjust on the fly now. They do it with TW … and the DF zones scaling. I do not think they need to do another ,but they probably will.

iLvl inflation is required, without it gear becomes extra pointless.

The only time we’ve really had linear gear progression was in Vanilla, and we had 60 levels in which to do it, so it worked – until the end.

If you want the Next Raid to be challenging, you need to make it so that it can’t really be done with the previous raids gear, but now you don’t have the time frame to grow the gear power that you did before.

So, the new content is Extra Hard, and thus the new gear has to hit Extra Hard, which is why gear starts rocketing up on a geometric scale. It doesn’t quite work to be 10% more powerful to conquer the next raid.

If every expansion were 60 levels big, this would be less of an issue for the main content, up to the first end raid. But the cycle would still repeat with each new raid that comes out.

Gear can go up by 16 ilvls between tiers.

Not 140.

Go do Mythic Tindral or Smolderon; doesn’t matter what your ilvl is, it’s still plenty challenging.

456 → 470
470 → 483

Problem is going into the new expansion we shouldn’t be be wearing level 70 gear still (mythic raid or not) at level 80.

During that 10 level gap.mobs are going to have to get stronger to present a challenge.

Then from questing greens into dungeons there has to be a power gap

Dungeons into raids. Then each difficulty in each raid. And each new patch that adds new content has to be challenging in an aspect from the previous patchs average ilvl. And then the new raids and the new power gaps again. Etc etc etc

And you have to feel yourself getting stronger. Theres not much of a change between 440 and 444. But theres a noticable difference between 440 and 456 for example.

But from Legion to BFA, i heard the squish was because the servers or clients can only.handle so much. And the bigger and higher the numbers the bigger the load and slower the client responds.

Which makes sense. Even the best computer youve ever built can get bogged down with too much going on at once
