Do you have any pets left in Guild Banks?

EDIT up front

If I DRAG AND DROP the “Pet Cages” into my bags, I get the pets back! :pray:

Do that now, just in case!

I know Blizzard had very serious problems with Guild Banks, in which a lot of people lost a lot of old and valuable things, but I had believed that was resolved. I was lucky enough not to have been hit by that one. My pets did not disappear.

But today in the Discord, we got news that pets in Guild Banks had been converted to “Pet Cage” with no pet inside. I’ve been hit by this one, and so have several others.

I had almost a full tab of pets, that are now gone. If I try to take one of these “Pat Cages” out to my bags, it just disappears.

It seems so consistent it is as if they ran a database proc on Guild Banks to fix something else, and it converted actual caged pets to empty “Pet Cages”.

If you have been hit by this, I suppose all you can do is get your ticket in early, Blizzard did not resolve the original problem well, but if this was some run intended to fix something else, there might be a chance to reverse it.

I am also seeing this issue on the bank alt who handles my pet sales.

Luckily, as you mentioned, drag/drop to bags allows the caged pet to reappear.

Sadly, I do not have enough storage to move all these out of guild banks (as this is not the only bank with pets).

I have already lost an entire guild bank with the last issue.

Sigh.

I made alts with 11 32-slot bags. Each alt can hold 3 GB tabs.

The pet tab for my main guild bank looks like that, all just cages. I also have two personal guild banks and they were about half and half. I did remove all the blank cages and they became the caged pets again. Tried to add them again, but they revert to blank cages.

I’m seeing this too. As for myself, I have not lost anything, the pets just do not display correctly while they’re in the bank. I can withdraw them and they appear correct in my bag, then going back to being incorrect when they go back into the guild bank.

As far as I can tell, this is a display issue, but they need to be on this immediately, because people are worried guild banks are going to lose items again.

That was my worry, I ended up losing about 300k worth of mats with the past GB bug so for now I’ve removed all pets from the guild banks just to be on the safe side.

I also reported it on the bug forum and linked this thread in the post.

Fortunately, I don’t have any high value pets in my guild bank. They’re just duplicates of things I’m saving to give away to friends that may want them.

I’ve got an AH alt gbank with this problem. Tho it is only pets that have actually been learned then caged. The “item” pre-learned seems to not be affected. I am concerned by the tooltip tho. After the “Use: Teaches you how to summon this companion.” It then goes on with “This was never available to players. Never Implemented>Battle Pets>MoP>5.0.4 Added with Patch 5.0.0”. Since this appears on pets I know are “racial” pets bought from vendors (dragonhawks, owls, moths, etc) it seems rather odd. Going to see if I can manage to get these moved into personal inventory on some of my alt army. Bit of a pain but rather not lose an entire 6 tab gbank of pets.

I am pretty sure this phrase is inserted by the addon AllTheThings.

It actually makes sese, if my understanding is correct, that understanding being that the devs created a database item 82800 called “Pet Cage”, possibly as a container. A player could never obtain a “Pet Cage” on its own, so ATT would correctly say it doesn’t recognise it as something a player might have.

Whatever they have done recently, a caged pet appears as 82800/“Pet Cage” when in a GB, and ATT quite legit says it doesn’t see how anyone could have it.

Caged pets are not actually items though they can be stored in containers like items. As Gráinne correctly points out, they are actually itemID 82800 or Pet Cage.

If you’d like to experiment, put a regular item in the first slot of your default backpack and paste this into chat:

/dump C_Container.GetContainerItemLink(0,1)

You’ll see something like this:

Dump: value=C_Container.GetContainerItemLink(0,1)
[1]="|cffffffff|Hitem:6948::::::::60:72:::::::::|h[Hearthstone]|h|r"

That item:6948 is the itemID:

/dump C_Container.GetContainerItemID(0,1)
Dump: value=C_Container.GetContainerItemID(0,1)
[1]=6948

Now try again with a caged pet in the first backpack slot:

/dump C_Container.GetContainerItemLink(0,1)
Dump: value=C_Container.GetContainerItemLink(0,1)
[1]="|cff0070dd|Hbattlepet:1687:1:3:154:12:11:0000000000000000:64194|h[Left Shark]|h|r"

There is no itemID in that link like there was with the hearthstone above. But if you look for the itemID:

/dump C_Container.GetContainerItemID(0,1)
Dump: value=C_Container.GetContainerItemID(0,1)
[1]=82800

That pet, and all caged pets, are itemID 82800. (Items that teach a pet all have their own itemID and are not caged pets. This is just for pets that were once in someone’s journal and now show the special tooltip for a pet.)

The guild bank has always been difficult to deal with pets. It looks like it’s even gotten worse.

When I read this the first thing that I did was log onto my banker alt that controls my Alliance guild bank that holds all of my caged pets. Sure enough, all showed empty cages!

She took them all out and once they were in her bags, they turned back into the correct pet icons. Going to leave them in her bags until they GB get straightened out.

Same issue. All pets show empty cages.

Ah, makes sense. I’ve noticed All The Things does seem to have problems recognizing some items.
