Do you enjoy a proc based rotation?

when this button lights up, you press it.

Sometimes. Frost mage is a very proc based rotation. When you’re getting good RNG you can really pump, but you also have your lows where you’ve been fishing for a proc for 10 frostbolts and it’s just the worst feeling. I’m ok with proc/rng based specs as long as there’s a bit of RNG protection (such as what fire has).

i prefer it to rotations that are purely based on lining up cooldowns

Nah One of the reason I love playing a destro lock is because for the most part, you’re in complete control of the damage you put out

Not really.

And I also hate Eclipse.

Bad on them for bringing that poo back!

I like proc based classes, I feel there is a higher skill gap to them. Static rotations can be learned by anyone and it becoming muscle memory eventually gets boring and there’s not much room for outplaying others.

Proc based rotations at least require some form of quicker reaction time and more chance of messing up due to it never just being static. Rotation stays fresh longer and when you get those massive chains of procs it feels so rewarding

It’s nice to break up the monotony, to a point. But when a rotation is totally built around procs it usually just gets annoying. Like, I took Faeline Stomp in part because of the RNG free stomp procs. It’s a nice way to mix things up a bit.

sometimes. i played frost mage for years it’s proc based and sometimes it sucks. i believe it was back in legion where we literally just casted frost bolt for days… trying to get a proc. you could EASILY go 10-15 casts without a proc. those days sucked.

either or though idc been playing for so long that i’ve played most casters to an extent excluding a small handful just because idc much for their class lore.

I love the idea of a proc based rotation and have mixed feelings on implementations of them. I love frost mage because I just do. Don’t really know why tbh. Frost feels a ton better with the venthyr ability due to a 1.5 minute CD that guarantees procs. It really smooths out how frost feels on ST and gives it a desperately needed way to guarantee procs on a CD.

Not sure I care for lava burst proc that ele relies heavily on depending on build. Tbh, I really don’t like eles reliance on fire shock. Makes it feel like a dot class but it’s dot isn’t spammable and the only reason you care about flame shock (for the most part) is procs and primordial wave.

I would really prefer an ele rework that focuses far more heavily on lightning/earth abilities. At least allow that type of build to be an option (which I know it recently kinda is but still relies heavily in flame shock). The reason I made my first shaman way back when was because of how cool chain lightning was and that was before the graphical update to it and it looks even more badass now.

I’m tired of being a budget fire mage :(.

To be clear, I still love this class/spec, it’s my main. Don’t wanna come off like I’m whining. That would be the direction I would go if it was up to me though.

I like them on fast-moving classes, or where there’s a lot of different procs to choose from. Shaman has a bunch, so does Unholy DK. I like it a bit less with Arcane, and I know I wouldn’t be as happy with it for Fire mage.

There’s a lot to be said for Pally, where you mash buttons and kill stuff, too.

Yes, in a moderate amount.
Ele shaman is very fun with Lava Surge procs but you can’t just mindlessly press it whenever it lights up, you lose a lot of dps if you do.
Frost DK is incredibly boring, all you do is press whatever the game wants you to.

Don’t do a diservice to my boi UHDK. It only has one proc and doesn’t really change your rotation, it’s kinda there just to save runic power.

A proc here and there is fine, but when your spec is the RNG whack-a-mole that was Legion MM… well you can take that dumpster fire and shove it where the sun don’t shine.

BfA Enhancement was all about spamming Stormstrike and hope you don’t waste procs because they just kept coming back to back

Yes if it done right.

Best case would be Dancer from FF14. It’s rng on rng. But it flows so well. Sure there up and downs of the rotation. But at the same time Dancer not suppose #1 dps. It’s a support n dps class. So if it done right.

Don’t really have a strong opinion on it really. The only proc heavy one I’ve played is Frost Mage… and I do wish it was more deterministic.

I never liked proc based rotation so failed then stopped playing my healer paladin that I loved before the change. I’m managing it so far playing frost mage.

I always enjoyed the dot and proc nature of Ranged Survival. Especially the version where you needed to weave Arcane Shots in between Explosive Shots during a Lock-n-Load proc.
