I love it because I’m bad at memorizing priority (like I’m terrabad at demo for example).
There’s procy elements to Destro. Trinkets and other powers. Soul shard generation, especially with Infernals.
I can’t speak to other rotations so much, no doubt the bulk of the DPS is just keeping up on the cooldowns and firing at the right time.
But there’s certainly elements to it.
I like procs because of the moments where you get lucky and feel like you are doing more damage than the game wants you to do.
100% this.
True but their procs and resource consumption are so regular that it feels, to me on my DK at least, like a standard almost procless rotation. I wonder if it feels different using a 2h weapon. I’ve been dual wield so long I don’t want to change.
I actually do. I mean yea it’s kinda annoying that it’s so rng reliant but at the same time I find it somewhat realistic that it is.
When I imagine a frost mage in real life, I think whether or not an attack hits really hard would also be kinda random.
Trinkets are your own choice, NOT part of a classes design which is what we’re talking about here.
The only aspect of soul share generation that is proc based is our crits and the only spell that is really noticeable for this is Conflagrate. So for the most part that’s in our control.
Infernals shard Gen isn’t rng, UNLESS you run the Rain of Chaos talent then yes very rng but that build isn’t used very much right now. And when it is it’s only up for 30sec at a time.
No.

It’s something that folks gripe about a lot but I actually really enjoy managing the procs for frost mages. You’ve got to make sure not to munch procs by mistake to maximize dps and it actually makes the gameplay pretty fun imo.
Luckily the low moments that you mentioned are very rare. I will say I had like a 20 frostbolt low point once last tier though. ![]()
Depends on proc rate. As a DH main, I don’t have this. But on FFXIV I main dancer and alt red mage for other content and both are proc based - I enjoy them too very much. I would enjoy fire mage on WoW but the cast times are way too long for my taste.
no, i prefer predictable button spam
Procs provide some variation in rotation. If procs weren’t so prevalent, rotations would be very, very, VERY static, and I’m not particularly fond of that. I recommend FFXIV for players who want more of that style of rotation, although even FFXIV has been adding more variation from procs and such over time.
I’m not saying procs make a rotation complex. They largely don’t. But they shake things up a little and I appreciate that.
i love my 20 button combo rotation Samurai with several off-gcd powerups and rage dumps
I mean it’s better than classic rotations ahahaha.
But I like it when a button lights up, I press it, and then big numbers show up!
My #1 complaint about BM hunter is that it basically requires you to use WeakAuras addon to monitor Barbed Shot maximally. Any player not using it will have subpar DPS in comparison to a good AI script monitoring when you should and should not press Barbed Shot.
IMO that is bad design. It rewards players who use an addon over players that don’t.
3rd party software should NOT be required to be competitive.
Barbed shot has 2 charges, lasts 8 seconds on a 12 second CD, and can proc off the passive Wild Call.
So without your computer basically running the sim for you continuously with WeakAuras you’re going to make a bad call somewhere, mistime it by 1 second, and then you go from 3 stacks of Pet Frenzy to 0.
At that point you have to start your ramp up all over again. It is a terrible system IMO.
Now something like Fire Mage, they are designed completely around procs, but they also get Combustion to help with that if things are going bad. BM hunters have no real fall back unless I want to toss out a Lust in the middle of a Raid Grp just to get my rotation fixed.
Lower the CD of Barbed Shot to 8 seconds, or just give it 3 charges.
That is honestly the ONLY change I want to see to BM Hunters in 9.1, everything else is smooth as butter.
This. Part of the reason Enhancement feels so bad is that even when the procs trigger a lot, you’re still doing middle of the road dps.
Disagree, this is the best eclipse has ever been. I absolutely hated it in BFA and Legion.
It’s not proc based either, you have full control; even our best legendaries (BoAT and Pulsar) are completely predictable.
It may be a “better version,” but Eclipse is a poop mechanic to me. Hated it every version, still do! ![]()

It depends it’s nice to get a sudden death proc but playing a frost mage and not getting any procs just sucks.
Having played several games that use the “chain” based combat method, I do enjoy it. It offers you a break from, spam ability A until you have enough “energy” to use ability B, then start over again.
Depends on how consistent the procs are.
I generally prefer the actual consistent stuff though. Shadow Priests are defined by a very consistent burst window more than anything else and have thoroughly been enjoying that class lately.
