Do you believe in the soul?

How does it work though? Why am I me, and no one else? I know myself. I understand myself. I am me. I think, therefor I am. No one else can know my PoV like me. I can describe it but they 'll never be me as I am me. Could that really be caused by some random biochemical reaction is wrinkled meat and sinewy? Doesn’t really make sense. Consciousness in general doesn’t make sense.

And yet god could stop it from happening. God is omnipotent yes? God invented sin yes? God could snap his fingers and no more sin, no more hell. He choose to allow humans to suffer. Even in death.

The brain is…complicated, and consciousness even more so. Science will be a while unraveling all the mysteries of both, if they even can.

now that’s cool

Only you can answer that, though maybe not yet. Have you learned anything interesting? Have you helped someone else learn something interesting? Usually people can answer that question for themselves while on their dead bed if given the opportunity. Don’t wait that long lol, reflect on your life now and see what you can be grateful for.

Consciousness is the pen, the soul is the eternal book, the spirit the character that must drive the physical body through the story. You write chapters or witness them.

This is what I’m talking about:

That is super cool. My claim to fame is I met Michael Flatley, Lord of the Dance before he hit stardom.

My cat really likes funk. He won’t leave me alone!

Leibnitz believed God had an infinite number of universes he could have created in the beginning. Onces he chose one and started it, it was like setting off a row of dominos where each event would cause the next event. Being omniscient he would have picked the one with the best possible outcome. Therefore this world with all the suffering and injustices in it is still the best of all possible worlds that will end in the best possible outcome.

I like this topic and I enjoyed reading many of the responses and thoughts people have on it. Thank you for sharing :two_hearts:

If I could throw my own 2c in… yes we have a soul. Our consciousness goes beyond our body, our heart and feelings are connected to our brains and we respond physically to chemical reactions but there are things you can feel spiritually too. It’s just in your soul you can feel things, like a kindred spirit around you, an old soul, you can feel a connection that is unexplainable to some like animals. I very much believe this is spiritual connection.

Secondly, yes! We are stardust! We are all from the same existence and made of the same stuff. Lol but maybe we don’t understand that much about it. That could be for the best as well, because ignorance is bliss.

It’s sort of like wow, where some of the story is probably better left untold. It leaves a sense of mystery to things which makes those things or characters seem bigger since they can be perceived in so many ways.

If you read Revelations, God wipes away the first heaven and first earth.

Think about that for a hot minute. If heaven is so imperfect it can be wiped away… what does that mean for anyone trying to achieve heaven?

I believe in my “soul” brothers and enjoy a lot of their music.

So god is not omnipotent only omniscent.

Hmm,I believe the physical body is dust and soul is the product of reflecting this dust as spirit wished to become. You can’t BE because the spirit is never be alone.

All in all this conversation was ah-maz-zing for a FRIDAY night GD discussion. I enjoyed it completely.

That’s surprisingly similar to what I believe although conveyed in a much different way then I usually do.

I probably stumbled down your road on my journey and got some wisdom.

I was stating Leibnitz philosophy. I didn’t say I fully agree. He would say it was just another event leading to the best possible outcome in the end.

I believe almost everyone goes to heaven, unless you’re a really, really, big a**.
