Do our memories not influence our perception on a momentary basis?
I hate hardcore modes. Always having to make a new character when you die and worse off in the IRL game you can’t choose your appearance.
I might be letting personal experience color my opinions on this, but you bring up some valid points.

How could they not? My opinions today are vastly different on the same topics compared to 20 years ago. Perspective.

Sort of, we’ve proved memories are often not correctly recalled. Journals are valuable things, sometimes written words can give us clarification when the brain wants to make up stuff to fill in gaps.
If anyone wants to go down a crazy rabbit hole about souls, look up the Earth as a Prison Planet theory

Why would you want to worship a guy who is willing to punish people for eternity? Personally, I’d rather protest outside his office.
It is way more calm, cool and collected without them. I kinda miss that chaos, too.

The reason you experience “nothingness” when you’re knocked out from surgery isn’t because nothing was happening. It is because those drugs specifically prevent the formation of memories. You had experiences but you just can’t remember them. Memory isn’t a reliable well to tell if their is a soul or not as it can be altered and damaged.

Regarding memories, I’ve wondered how children today - growing up with all of their childhood experiences on video - will perceive their childhood later in life, when presented with the reality of those videos. I grew up at a time when we would take pictures of important occasions and take the film to be developed and picked up weeks later, to then see whether or not any pictures even captured the moment well lol. My memories of those occasions are my own, though, without being able to go back and “correct” my version of it with videos.

Every day I’m glad I grew up in a time where the evidence isn’t on film or saved to the cloud. Because I did some truly embarrassing stuff back when I was a kid.
