Do the kids still say woot?

If the kids are using it, avoid it like the plague. They change what they say every 5 months anyhow.

…like when we went to see Deadpool at 9pm, and a bunch of people brought their kids… I mean, really!?

Could be regional. Remember when Total Recall got released. They had two showings. A 5pm Matinee, and 1030pm

My Family was advised that I couldn’t be in the 1030pm one cause “children should be in bed at that time.”

Now a days… Theaters just want our money, haven’t seen one here really push carding kids unless the film is nc17 lol.

The youngin’s in my guild all say

‘gucci’ and ‘no bueno’ all the time.

I think Pog is now considered old.

I just laugh and whatever they say… I make it uncool for them…

They’d say pepe hands… I’d say… wash your peepee hands.

Anyway, woot is not short for “wow loot.” “woot” is short for “what a hoot.” In the 90s and early 2000s people online (mostly in BBS/IRC channels) used it because most people using the internet back then were older people who commonly still said “what a hoot,” which younger people did not (and still thankfully do not). With the advent of leet speak (short for elite speak and often written as 1337 sp34k or whatever) “woot” became “w00t” and started to be used by younger audiences unfamiliar with its origin because leet speak made everything cool if you were 12.

Woot was also commonly used way back in Everquest’s hayday, just so you know…

In fact, a guildie of mine from that game had that name as one of the raid pullers and one of the mechanics of bosses was an instant death that would yell that player’s name, hilarity insued when they killed that player…

I say it on occasion at 26.

Deadpool came out when?
I believe hes talking about the 80-90s

At least you didn’t start out your reply to them about what “woot” was with “pro tip”

Personally I don’t say woot, but I never really did. I say “coolio” or “cool beans my dude” or “word” or “hecks yes!” I have been told I “sound old” before, but I’m only 28! I guess that’s old for a teenager, hah

First I heard of it was back in the ‘90s. You’d also hear “whoot”, “whoomp”, and a few other variations. So yeah, it’s at least 25 years old at this point.

Yeah, I was just comparing. We just felt like it was wrong on multiple levels, to have your kids out this late and to Deadpool, but apparently the theater either didn’t know or didn’t care.

Also, on topic, I just used “FTW” in another thread… lol

I’m more of a ‘Yay’ kind of person.

Or you could still whistle at a pretty girl and she was not offended by it.

False. I grew up in the 80s and HATED getting whistled at. I used to cross the street to avoid construction sites. Misogyny was just pervasive in the 80s because women were expected to suck it up and make nice with bigots.

Or, my favorite, given my age then.

“Are you sure she wants Thundercats and not Barbie? Or maybe a SheRa at the least?”

No I want Thundercats. More importantly I want Mumra! He needs to team up with Skeletor to fight Voltron and have tea after!

Woot is at least 23 years old. Cool is timeless though. Been in common use for over a century.

Don’t care what they say as long as they stay off my lawn

To be honest I’ve not heard anyone say “woot” in any dungeon or raid runs in a while, though I have heard people exclaim “nice”, “yes!” or “woohoo” a lot.

My 16year old niece likes saying “oh yarr!” a lot

We’re closer to the year 2040 than we are to the year 2000.
The 90s were 30 years ago.
Batman: The Animated Series went offline 25 years ago.

Wrath of the Lich King was 12 years ago.

We’re all old! \o /
