What does it matter what the kids say? If you dig a certain word use it. Heck, the kids might see it and think it’s far out and start using it themselves. I mean, yolo, right?
In meme years it’s old.
I haven’t seen something THIS hideous since the Rectification of the Vuldrani…
36 years strong here. I say woot a lot also lol. But most people I run with are in the 35-38 range, so they understand it.
I can imagine with all the younger folks popping off with kekw (still no idea what that is btw) and other random abbreviations, they wouldn’t recognize woot.
I got that movie reference right away. Gave me a good laugh.
Stuff ages too fast on the interwebs. I mean, vulpera just came out and their dance is from a 2013 meme, but might as well be from 1813.
Personally, I’ve just decided to keep it all. I’ll make references to anything, or use slang from, any time, new or old, and if people don’t get it that’s their problem.
Isn’t the current term of elation “Yeet!” ?? I have kids and they “yeet” alot
So many rated R action/horror movies from this era had cartoons and toy lines made/marketed to children it’s bizarre.
Not really bizarre. Most kids knew it was “Make Believe” and silly, and watched these films with their parents at home, where the craze started. Sure some were scary, but not to the point it was in poor taste cause kids wouldn’t be in the Theaters when these where shown (9am to midnight) back then.
You can easily see which ones got the market and which ones didnt. Does it show nudity? Yes? Then no toyline.
High octane violence with naughty words? Toyline.
And remember, in today’s rating system The Lost Arch and Temple of Doom would be classified as a Hard R rating due a hand full of scenes, but just a measly pg13 back then.
I thought yeet was an action verb, like I yeet my stapler across the room. Is it a generic exclamation now? I just can’t keep up.
I think it’s becoming more general usage now, because the younger the kids are using it, the less they use it in the proper context. That’s a guess. I’m old and I Woot, too
Oh, are we back to Excelsior now?
I saw a guy post in general chat that he had “Dinged!” And I thought to myself that I hadn’t seen that in ages (probably Cata). Then some kids types.“Dinged what?”
Nah dude, that was Robin William’s catch phrase on Mork and Mindy. Shazbot and nanu nanu.
Toxic Avenger had nudity, so did Robo Cop, so did just about every R rated horror film from 1978-1991.
w00t!! yeah we do!
I remember when people just said, “Boss!” and it meant the same thing, And if someone was being critical of you, like your shoes or clothes, they’d say “Burn!” and point to your shoes.
That’s streets ahead
They happy to use nah though which has been around even longer. Crazy kids.
