In regards to the question mentioned by the title of the thread…
Yes, some people do believe that. I myself am of the mind that I do not know what would happen, since it has not happened. “What ifs” are fun to discuss, but in this scenario, I feel like it could help, but it could also harm Raiding to an extent.
At least in the sense that I can see less players doing raids since some (many?) only do “Looking For Raid”. Myself included after Shadowlands actually. I cannot speak for anyone but myself, but I know I would not do any more raiding of any kind if LFR was taken away since I do find them enjoyable anymore.
After reading some of the replies I don’t think that folks actually read the title of this post. No, removing LFR is not going to get people to raid more. Removing LFR would further diminish the number of players who engage in any raid content.
People who bag on LFR are:
Not mythic raiders and likely not good enough to be in a CE focused guild.
Not heroic raiders and likely not good to be a heroic focused guild.
Just mean spirited people.
LFR does not have a direct impact on your ability to clear a heroic raid. Saying otherwise is a straight up lie. I don’t know much about guilds who focus on normal and move to heroic, though I have been in a couple. They’re super easy going people and just never stressed about how good or bad someone was. They just wanted to enjoy each other company, so I would say that LFR actually helps that level of player for gear acquisition.
LFR has a place in the game, I’m glad it’s there for people who need/want to use the raid. Just like RDF, I’m glad it’s there for people who want/need to use that as a way to move through content. At the end of the day, neither of these two tools prevent you or your guild from completing content you want to complete.
The bigger issue, to me and others, is “Is LFR good at what it’s supposed to do?” And the answer seems pretty clearly “no”. Which is why a lot of folks think it should be converted into a single-player experience like Wrath’s “Battle for the Undercity”.
Based on what data? According to Ion your statement is false. So what data are you using to derive this statement? How is the data collected? How is the data analyzed? You’re just saying this to be confrontational.
Who specifically are a lot of folks? How did you poll a lot of folks? What questions did you use to remove any potential bias?
It is so incredibly bizarre how you people just make things up.
Some people do believe that if LFR was removed more people would try raiding normal. That LFR is a convenient tool that has caused many people to become lazy and not try to get better. I don’t think the belief is that everyone that does LFR will just move to normal but there is a small percent that will.
Based on the constant complaints from people who do FLR.
Ion could tell me it’s bright in the daytime and dark at night and I would be skeptical.
People who have actually given thought about how to give players a better experience, rather than just blindly defend the piece of crap that Blizzard served up in Cataclysm.
No actual data and lots of raging. Sorry you’re having such a bad day. I hope things get better for you. Once you have some actual data that we can sift through let us know.
However the people who raid LFR would not be able to execute the mechanics to walk forwards out of a paper bag, so I don’t think they would get very far.
Only ever used Looking For Raid meself for the story if it was needed, otherwise I mainly did world stuff. Such as Crafting, Gathering and planning events for the guild. Though this was my mindset the start of Shadowlands and before.
Now I rather just focus on Professions and let that be my progression path so to speak. Well, that and explore the new land and such. I can see perhaps some push being made for those who like raids to go out of their way to join groups to do Normal Difficulty at least should LFR be taken out.
However I don’t really see such an action going very well, except for those that like to see drama perhaps, among some other things.
Suggesting that LFR be improved so it isn’t a place where people get trolled and abused is now “raging”?
You’re just illustrating why LFR as it currently stands is such a mistake. They need to convert it into a single-player experience that people can enjoy at their own pace. And without trolls and people who are perpetually angry about their LFR experience.
I don’t think so. It would be the opposite. LFR is an experience but it allows players an option to participate in the penultimate experience each season. Love them or hate them, raids are how player’s experience the story end game. It’s how I actually started raiding too. I don’t always participate in LFR anymore, though obviously I will for tier set pieces if necessary. I also usually ignore the chat. LFR is chaotic and you get the players you are playing with at random. I still find it fun though.
Tl/dr: keep LFR and stop trying to ruin the game experience for LFR raiders. They paid their sub just like the rest of us.
Which is why people like the OP should stop making up fairy tales about how people want to remove LFR.
You yourself said that you ignore chat because of how chaotic it is. Wouldn’t a single-player experience that people can do at their own pace - and without trolls - be a potential improvement?
