Do people actually like quests in Classic?

They’re so boring and they take forever. In retail you can complete 5+ quests in under 15 minutes.

The funny thing is I find those retail quests to be moronic. Ever compare the quests for example? Classic, although not perfect, has some good quest text that sounds mostly right if you read them. TBC quests were even better in that department.

Retail quest text however is absolute garbage from cataclysm, on. I understand why, because they had to redo all the quests during cataclysm but it’s still in the game.

Some vanilla quests suck of course, mostly escort quests but at least most of them you’ll actually remember compared to retail. For better or for worse.

You don’t compare a modern game to a 15 year old game. You compare Vanilla to its contemporaries…mainly EverQuest, which despite its name had very very few ‘quests.’

That’s why I like them.

Yes, absolutely. I don’t know if you read them, but if you don’t, try it. It can make them a little more meaningful. Plus, I love having a whole bunch of quests in my quest log and working my way through them. I like being out in the world.

I don’t think that’s the metric most people use to determine if they like quests.

Generally speaking, quests I like are long and interesting chains that require me to do many different things. I think retail has a decent amount of these as well as classic.

I’m betting you’re a troll, but…if not,

I’m here almost exclusively for the quests.

But, I’m thinking troll

Escort quests are the worst. The human in a cage north of Stonard. The Tauren on top of Thousand needles.

It’s just like this video:

I dislike the Tanaris/Hinterlands/Feralas quest range. There’s so much traveling back and forth. Other than that, I don’t mind.

Yes I like that they are generally simple and straight forward, I really hate a lot of quests in retail that try to throw in cut scenes, loss of character control mechanics etc…

The quests themselves are far better in retail

In retail, it’s like you need a mount just to carry the 60 quests you picked up on your way to town.

In classic, you need a mount to turn in 1/3 of a quest in Org that requires another quest in the middle of the badlands for 2/3 then hoof it back to Desolace just cause.

Often I just end up grinding mobs. Hell, by the time I turn the quest in, it’s green or gray after fighting all the trash to get there.

I was doing the Silverpine quest for Arugal curse. I literally walked back and forth between two NPCs that couldn’t talk to each other standing 10 feet apart.

On my main I enjoyed questing my way to 60, on my alt I ran a lot more dungeons to get to 60.

Except things like getting your warlock summons, getting druid forms, and warrior stances. I’m glad I got to experience this in Classic.

Why not it’s still World of Warcraft. It’s a much more relevant comparison than EQ.

That’s being said there’s things I like and don’t like about OG questing. It definitely feels more immersive, but the running back and forth gets old after a while. Leveling/questing in classic isn’t hard, it’s just very tedious.

Vanilla and EQ are more similar of games than Vanilla and retail are…at least in my opinion.

Yeah definitely gunna disagree there. EQ didn’t have instanced dungeons or raids or quests or, at least early on. The only way to level was get in a group and grind mobs. Absolutely not the case in vanilla. Oh and don’t forget about xp loss from death, corpse rot and all that stuff. I knew a few EQ players that quit wow by the time they hit level 20. EQ players considered WoW casual garbage. Yeah EQ was closer timewise to vanilla WoW, but thats about it.

Yea I really enjoy them.

The nitty gritty are different I agree. But I think the overarching design are more similar than old WoW and retail WoW.

Both Vanilla and Classic are more player driven in my opinion. The players are set aimless into a world and it is up to them to figure out stuff to do.

Retail WoW on the other hand is very systems driven on the other hand. The tasks are set out by Blizzard instead of the players. Do your emissaries, get your M+ in for the week. More like chores.

That is why I feel old WoW is closer to EQ than modern WoW.
