Do not take my pet

Whatever that means.

The intent is that MM will not be a petless spec, however. Your eagle is meant to be visually and gameplay impacting.

I agree with and wholeheartedly support everything in OP’s starting post.

It is neither. You can barely see the thing. It flits onto the screen for less than half a second at a time. It’s the size of a golf ball. The only truthful thing in their work-up about the eagle was that it would “exist outside the game space.” THAT it does, because it barely even exists as a graphical flair, and it exists not at all as anything else.

It’s why I am uncertain if the current animations are the final product. If they are, then there is no need for “unique interactions … appearances” as they outlined. Otherwise, I agree - the current implementation of this pet is offensive in the laziness it displays and the lack of choice it represents.

We gave up tame beast for this?

This is why I strongly agree with this person’s idea:

If they had done something like this from the start, MM would retain the original hunter class fantasy while still being distinct from the other specs and having all the functionality of the new eagle mechanic, and people could still have an eagle if they wanted because it builds on the existing hunter pet system. I would actually be so happy if they scrapped the eagle and did this instead. Bonus points if they add a “stealth” glyph I’ve seen someone (I can’t remember who, I’m afraid) suggest that makes all the animal animations and effects invisible for Lone Wolf fans.

That is one of many proposed changes that is infinitely better than this half-finished rework

The pet is the defensive adjustments for marks

I have never, ever, ever, in the entire history of beta rollouts for video games, seen a major element dropped in a dogcrap state and then magically transform into something cool on release day. “It’s just a beta!” was the mantra that led to Darktide’s disasterpiece of a release.

They’re not going to replace the current little whizzy pixel eagle with a Final Fantasy VII lavish summon animation where John Cena and Ohn’ahra fly in to team up and powerbomb the mob through a table. This is it. This is the eagle. This is how the eagle is going to look when it goes to live.

It looks like nothing. It IS nothing. This is why they didn’t bother to give you any visual customizations at launch-- you can’t see it anyway.

Then their road map makes no sense. There is no point to unique appearances for it, and tame beast already accomplishes that goal.

I genuinely think that at some point there were plans for an eagle as a fixed but unobtrusive Marks companion, and over time during development, the desire for a ‘pure Lone Wolf’ experience eroded it to the state it’s in now, where it functionally doesn’t exist.

Their roadmap is wishful thinking, it cannot be implemented with the eagle being what it currently is.

They aren’t taking my pet! Hooray! Thank you, Blizz! I think this is a win for everyone. :open_hands:
