DKs in casual PVP - is /that/ bad?

I’m pretty new to PVP, still gearing up some characters to see which one I like to PVP with and DKs are on that list, but all I read is bad opinions about them here in PVP. I can’t gauge it just yet mysef because I’m not even fully geared, so I’m in a big disadvantage no matter what.

Granted, I’m only interested in more casual forms of PVP, and I prefer battleground matches over arenas. I’m not a big fan of Frost, and really love UH and Blood.

Avoid crit whenever possible….

Melee the ranged and Kite the pure melee. Do not go toe to toe with pure melee specs and spam chains to kite during most of the fights.

DKs suffer from having a lot of CC. My theory is that the reason they’re constantly nerfed in damage is because they have a large amount of CC compared to other classes.

To be honest id trade some cc for a MS or ret pally level damage in pvp.

Right now it feels really bad as a dk to get absolutely pumped by a fury warrior, hunter or pretty much anything but a mage

So our role in PVP is more of a supporter or pressure maker with the CCs and we gotta rely on others to cover the damage?

I flatline fast against Feral Druids, Warriors, MM Hunters and Outlaw Rogue.
Casters can be killed fairly easy, except for the good Frost Mage.

Give it a few rounds and you’ll see what you can kill easy and what slaps you around.

If you are not doing competitive PvP (arena/blitz) I would absolutely give blood a try.

UH was great until copping the nerfbat
Now damage is ordinary, in random BGs where there are players that only care about damage and dont understand that having a brain and cc healers is our main playstyle after the nerfs…it can be rough
IMO, at the moment UH isnt for the casual pvper where damage is all that matters to others…but in arena, with up to 6 stuns at our disposal, with some practice we are more than capable and pressure gods.
MW detox on 8 sec CD is a hard counter for us (and rogues)

Maybe for random BGs Blood can yield better results? I know they might not do a lot of damage, but I’ve heard it’s a good spec to guard points and hinder flag carriers.

Blood is fine everywhere.

I am super excited to start playing it again actually, especially since frost did not pan out the way I had hoped.

When I only spoke of the non-competitive modes, it was more from my experience. I never really did anything competitive myself, but loved playing blood in DF.

Spec Blood if you enjoy being last on the target list. Which is the only reason why tanks are usually the last one standing because everyone just ignores you and targets everyone else.

I see it… Can’t blood seize that to just add pressure with the amount of grips and CCs it has, especially if they can disable healers? Of course, that must require very competent team mates or else it’s for nothing.

It’s not for the experienced PvPer either, really. It’s too easy to shut down. All but the most diehard players have abandoned it at pretty much every level of the ladder. The spec is for all intents and purposes dead against skilled players, but it’ll still tear people up in casual PvP.

the general issue is the amount of CC they are putting in the game for M+ is wrecking havoc for setup/finesse specs in pvp combined with the idea that damage output should be balanced around equality instead of effort. if you go to the great lengths to actually get the equivalent of a 10 button combo done in todays pvp environment and it does piddly damage while other classes can outpace and out accelerate your damage with 3 buttons its just going to make you frustrated and burnt out.

IMO if it takes me 3 times the effort to play my class, i should do 3 times the damage, and if that is unfair to meter bros i don’t care.

Blood is the ultimate node spinner in blitz, or if you wanna be toxic, kidnapping healers (I do not condone this behavior)

I guess the nice thing about blitz is that tanks aren’t usually expected to fc either. Healers seems to be far better at that.

Man, you would think so given the multiplicative damage taken modifiers that turn a prot warrior into an arms, but the tank hate still runs rampant within the community.

You queue blood or prot pally, and the mistweaver monk will demand you hobble the flag across the map while expecting you to heal yourself and peel for yourself as the rest of your team fights mid and lets their feral free cap after you die, followed by a “BRO HOW DID YOU DIE AS A TANK?”

Basically, if you don’t hate yourself, rating is significantly easier to gain as a dps due to the carry potential of shutting down priority targets and healers.

exist in arena as blood, people will send you rage tells all day long.

Honestly, blood is a bit overtuned in arena right now, but I’m here for it when frost is in utter shambles.

The satisfaction of gripping and exterminating 3 people at once with a death chain on them is peak gameplay.

i see your chains, and i raise you a darksim’d clone on the healer after you called the kill target by putting SR on a full HP target, then dropping them down to kill range for the SR with DS spam all before the healer gets out of clone.

if only SR was good this season.
