How is a caster(excluding Fire Mage, they’re god tier) suppose to beat DK? They’re oppresive in 2s, 3s, and RBGs. Finally about to kill them then they AMS, which really isn’t that big of a deal. Then they AMZ so all magic damage is mitigated again. Then they grip and stun. Then my go is gone. How do casters deal with this? I can’t CC them during AMS or Lichborne. I fake the majority of their casts.
While they’re topping damage. I play Lock, Ele, and Balance but I feel like I can’t beat any DKs with half a brain. The 3rd most oppressive spec for a caster. Fire Mage and HPally hold the top spot right next to each other.
Are casters not allowed to be viable in this expansion unless we play Fire Mage?
So strong that nobody played dk until the awc. Frost relies on a gimmick with chill streak.
They are alright against casters due to their spell defensives but if they are the reasons you are losing it’s not really a “dk is OP” issue because they simply aren’t.
I hate saying stuff like this, but very awkward coming from the casters you play.
Even after the awc the dk representation in arenas is still disgustingly low. Its because if you arent already amazing at frost dk its very very difficult to make the spec work. People love to say fdk is braindead and I dont completely disagree with that to a certain extent. Rotationally yes its pretty much mash obliterate and use procs but there is still a skill ceiling to it that most FDKs havent reached. Now im all for having players get better over just immediately calling for buffs but i really dont think that what lower rated dks are saying is entirely untrue
Its a fact that for a FDK to succeed you MUST get chillstreak goes. I mean when you hear dks saying that they feel like they do nothing outside chillstreak its very true. You no joke only see dk almost because of this ability BY ITSELF
Its unfun to play around that one ability the same way it was unfun for fire mages to play around gpie in bfa. Yes it made them viable but it was just so toxic and cancer to play
Not every DK wants their class to be based around chillstreak goes, People want to be able to push 1800-2100 without chillstreak which is currently almost impossible unless youre already really good
Dk as it stands is significantly easier to punish than nearly every other class when it comes to their offensive cds. Pillar for example only lasts 12 seconds and you have to spend half of it using your 0 damage buttons to proc your big oblits, this is also under the assumption you havent got cced in anyway at all since youve popped pillar. All it usually takes is 1 cc to annihilate pillar’s pressure because of its short duration since the october nerfs.
All it takes to annihilate the other half of a fdks burst is proper positioning and a little bit of foresight to see when that dk is itching to grip sleet chillstreak. Generally though pacing your trinkets 1 by 1 is enough to counter the first 3-4 chillstreaks of the game
Frost DK was one of my favorite specs to play in legion. It was very rotationally simple yes but now it’s still rotationally simple, feels slow, and you’re just waiting on on Chillstreak. I miss how gas pedal it was, just grip and do big dam
Hmm I think FDK is good. But it seems to need some help the really profit. Its not exactly a spec that does all that much on its own. Personally its spamming chains that makes me hate them, I don’t feel their kit is even half as oppressive as like min 6+ specs above it. Even in rbgs they often TC because they can gripstun ppl out of line/range for their warrior to sharpen and backline to slap.
I do understand if a random caster gets all warm and familiar Yolo one shotting everything and then they randomly can’t outplay anti-magic-X so they run to make a post about how insanely oppressive fdk is.
The only thing I have noticed “OP” about DK as an Ele Shaman is when they mass grip your team in and along with the WW you all get beat up. Even then, thats probably more the WWs fault and the DK is just facilitating that.
AMS is easily bursted through for me (especially if Flameshock is not dispelled before it is up), and AMZ you just cool your jets or just keep going.
Frost dk is broken but your mindset of pvp is wrong.
If they still have defensive CDs you were NOT about to kill them.
You want to play so that your TEAM gets AMZ IBF Trinkets out of the way. Land cross CC and kill.
You can still kill if AMZ is available will just require CC on the DK during your go.
Also welcome to your first mmorpg where class counters are intentional design. In world of warcraft death knight fits the anti caster role. Is this intended? Yup.
If I don’t kill someone with frostwyrm fury legendary after I pop AMZ just to survive the opener, I’m dead in the water. Pillar gets melted.
I miss my azerite trait shields. Every class has these rapidly on CD immunes. Mages are the most slippery class ever, they shimmer away and I’m forever chasing them despite grip which gives me like 2 seconds to do something.
You’re playing an entry lvl spec that can pump out 7-10k damage per global. Passively reduce the enemy teams CD regeneration and you have a massive aoe cc toolkit paired with CC immunes.
There’s no reason you should feel dead in the water
I have heartstop and chillstreak, but I don’t see anyone really suffering from the 30% CD reduction.
I spend so much time chasing people. And I know they’re trying to stay out of close proximity because of HS, but mages and hunters just make me feel like a wheelchair class.
Paladins go toe to toe, but they literally bubble and/or heal their way through whatever I throw at them.
I can melt warlocks though. Too bad I rarely see them.
i don’t know what to tell you. if you’re taking 2s seriously that’s an issue because 2s is always going to be fotm rerollers for the people that take it seriously. i mean frost dk is a counter to war/hpala so you should do fine atm.
in 3s frost dk is one of the easiest specs to play in arena and it thrives in this meta so idk what to say. if you’re constantly chasing people you need to swap targets and use your chains + deaths advance better. plenty of content on the internet for teaching people how to play their specs
I think a lot of it has to do with me being a novice at pvp. I haven’t learned to predict when the class I’m fighting is going to immune. And I switch targets because no sense waiting for them to drop immune, but then and especially if it’s a mage/ret they are setting up for a pyroblast or something.
Haven’t seen many warriors. Maybe my small sample experience. A lot of rets, druids, and fire. 2s are just miserable. I feel the most valuable in RBGs where I can contribute with the AOE slows.
I’ve only done a few rated 2s. Even at a low rating, I’m running into FOTMs or carries by such. I was watching videos by Flarkness and that’s how I have my toon set up apart from being necrolord
