I support this idea but only if they update the forum code of conduct to punish people who feel the need to parse / progression shame others.
Its cool if you are an uber leet raider hitting 99s and clearing every raid in the game in the first half hour of its release but I’m playing in the minor leagues and I’m more than tired of it being used as an excuse for some snooty elitist to be a jerk on the forums.
How about directly addressing the content of a post (or ignore it), instead of looking to deflect & attack a character/account instead. Typical primate behavior.
Know to not respond and move on, or call them out for others.
There used to be a plug in that read some exposed data on the forum side of things so people could not alt hop. You could catch trolls very easily because of this, and I remember actually calling out people having conversations with themselves between characters. Forum updates eventually broke this function though, not even sure intentional as Blizzard didn’t break it for quite some time.
Exposing names is a terrible idea, not sure if exposing everyone’s entire bnet ID is good either. You could maybe merge posting history between all characters and/or expose the name of their ID without the numbers which would keep them safe from being spammed by friend requests something.
Oh yeah that was it. That was great.
I think the author banned me cause I occassionaly told other forumgoers I was the mastermind. My logic was I didn’t want to shout about the plugin to the heavens expose as the author was allowing people to the site and request to be whitelisted. As an avid forum poster I assume he saw this at some point and claiming credit annoyed him. Whoops.
Or you could not care about the character and respond to the content of the post like you would do on other social platforms like Reddit.
If anything should be done it should be to just remove character (Or just keep them as avatar without the name) altogether and have people pick a forum specific username to use for their account.
The issue is these posts those people make aren’t entirely without merit on their own, it’s only when you’ve established the pattern that you realize responding to them is feeding them. Then they hop again and start the process over.
These days I’m jaded enough to where if I see something that feels inciendary I usually dont respond and just make a mental note of it, and after I see them do it 3 or 4 times I will tell others they are being baited.
