Sorry, I have to voice this - I know it does no good. But, jesus, how awful of a decision is this:
You record record profits for the quarter.
You give the CEO a 200 million dollar bonus.
You lay off 190 people, 3 months salary, in a PANDEMIC. I get it - Esports is dying. But when you’re blowing 200 million which is more money than 99.99% of the country will earn in a lifetime of working, just shameful.
You could have employed all those people for 10 years with that amount of money.
You could have given them 1 years’ severance.
You could have given the guy a 50 million bonus, and given everyone else that works for blizzard 10k, and not laid off anyone.
Like, people wonder why people are so mad at big corporations? You read stuff like this and it’s absolutely disgusting. Blizzard/Acitvision should be completely ashamed of themselves.
The bonus was in his contract they couldn’t have given him a lower one.
Also why would you keep 200 people on payroll who are working on nothing that’s a terrible way to run a business. Plus health insurance in the US for 12 months plus 3 months pay is amazing severance they didn’t have to do all that.
The company is around to make profits with minimal spending as possible I’m sorry if you think companies should hire unneeded staff just to spend all their money but that’s not how businesses work.
The whole CEO deal is disgusting and a stupid way to do business. No one knows what they do to merit such pay, either.
We’re living in really dumb times. Scary times, too when I read the comments that think CEOs are a necessary thing.
They’re not.
Never have been, never will be.
Someone does or they wouldn’t be getting it. You and I understanding it is not a requirement. No one can just walk in and say pay me X amount and have the board say oh ok sure.
dude. It’s esports division cuts. not any issue.
Their record view count was nearly 20k.
The most recent is in the hundreds.
if it was game developer positions then id be mega angry but this isn’t major.
It’s political. That’s what a CEO is, a politician, someone who’s connected, has a network and is supposed to move a company in a direction that’s more lucrative even if that’s in an illegal direction.
That is why I think they get so much money, at least at first. Now, they do it to launder money, amoung other things.
Saying that you, I, anyone else doesn’t need or deserve to know what they do to merit such pay isn’t practical unless you’re living in a communist, tyrannical state.
I want to know what Kotick brings to the table. Not just him, either but he is the one on Epstein’s flight logs.
People need to do research before they make uninformed threads like this.
Here’s part of what y’all should know. Go read facts instead of what angry social media gamer news site tells you. Learn how his job works and doesn’t relate at all to a few esports layoffs.
In 2019, Kotick’s total compensation at Activision Blizzard fell to $30.1 million,[25] down from his 2018 package of $31 million in salary, bonus, perks, stock and options. 85% of his 2018 compensation came from stock and options. He was the 21st most highly compensated CEO in the United States that year. He also earned 319 times more than the average Activision Blizzard employee’s salary of $97,000 in that year, putting him in 75th place among U.S. CEOs.[26] He is working under a deal inked in November 2016 with Activision Blizzard under which he earns bonuses if Activision Blizzard meets certain financial targets related to mergers and acquisitions.[27] The contract locks him in until 2021.[28]
they’ll get shining references, and most will probably walk into higher paid jobs without the guilt of having to go for interviews behind their employers back.
