Disappointed

Did you even read the link I posted? I guess not, the auto-squelch from right click reports came out in 2007. Any time you try to spread misinformation, claiming it came out in the Legion pre-patch; I will be there to correct you.

I’ve never viewed let alone posted in that thread. Mostly because I don’t care to spend several hours reading through 3000+ posts, but the point is I’ve had nothing to do with that thread, so any compromises proposed and shouted down in it, had nothing to do with me.

His link does say it was added in BC.
Even https://us.battle.net/forums/en/wow/topic/12188438877 seems to insinuate some form of the system like the squelch being in place when the blue comments about multiple people reporting stuff to make sure spammers are limited to how far they can spam and that’s from 5 years ago.

was thinking the same thing. gonna search my activity to see if i’ve posted in it at all. the thread is too unwieldly so been avoiding it.

edit: yeah i did post in it, a few times. didn’t read much of the prior posts though. i’d be interested in hearing what the other proposals are but not gonna read thru the prior posts. mayhaps pruf would enlighten us

It’s a real wild ride. I was super invested from posts ~400-800 and then came back 2000 posts later and it was the same half dozen posters having the exact same argument still.

Basically, one half of people are worried that the current system has the potential for abuse that would be fundamentally game breaking: coordinating to stop competition in trade chat, forcing DCs in battlegrounds, and silencing of open communication in chats etc. The underlying problem from this side’s point of view is that blizzard is giving the community the power to ‘punish’ other players.

The other side argues mostly that this is the system that has existed in wow for a couple years at least, and the community aren’t running rampant with complaints of abuse, so maybe it would be okay in classic too. This side argues that the basic intent of the system is to prevent turbo spam (gold sellers) and overt racism/bigotry in trade chat, and that these goals are worth the unknown risk for abuse.

There’s extremely passionate people on both sides, and very few people have acknowledged any change in their own opinions.

The closest I’ve seen to a middle ground/compromise would be the system stays mostly as is but they remove any possibility for automatic action due to reports, but the system aggregates and escalates reports for GM review based on how many reports in what window of time etc. It genuinely seems like it would work well, but it seems like it would require a significant investment in GM staffing levels. Seems not likely given recent staffing adjustments from actibliz.

But mostly it’s a bunch of angry people having a fist fight in the dark because there’s too many unknowns about the system and how it works and what blizzard plans to do. Every once in a while someone gets accused of being a racist, and I’m pretty sure that’s what led to the OP making this thread.

The 3000 post thread is slightly more nuanced than this, but this is a pretty good summary from what I’ve seen in it.

One half of what people?

So basically this is the one you personally like and the other compromises that were proposed are not worth you mentioning.

Of people in that 3000+ post thread about the auto-squelch

One side of the argument for or against the auto squelch system. I probably shouldn’t have used half, as theres not exactly polling numbers on this.

No you shouldnt have, especially for the vast majority of people did not care to even weigh in on it.

ah so like all the other threads on the topic. hehe. i think classic will prove to be a different critter than prior incarnations of azeroth, as it has been over a decade since it existed, complete with its wild west chat channels. i liken it to freeform roleplaying.

It’s one I saw discussed, and yeah I don’t hate it. Feel free to contribute as well. Sorry to interrupt your thread, I’ll see myself out.

its not pruf’s thread. she just thinks it is. this is mellga’s thread.

I would never claim ownership of such a bad thread.

ohmygosh, can you lighten up?

No. She literally was complaining because someone used the word half to describe two opposing groups.

You literally felt the need to point out what was posted a handful of posts earlier.

Yah. It was pretty funny. Clearly the guy was just talking about the two opposing groups on the squelch ordeal. Pretty aggressive. And speaking of that, I also found it pretty funny that the whole thing started up in this thread, too. lol

If we’re talking about the auto-squelch, resulting from numerous right-click player reports; that system has been in WoW for nearly 12 years.

we need to hire vurtne!
he can solve this problem! anybody know where he is?
