Disappointed

Yes the number of trolls relative to the population would be down

And you go ahead and believe that because there are less players so there are less trolls.

There are fewer trolls because most people don’t communicate in-game anymore, mostly due to game mechanics discouraging communication.

I have no problems communicating in game, over public channels or private. Haven’t been squelched so far despite some threats from some people on this board.

Yeah, cool. But how many activities in WoW encourage communication, outside of progression content? And even then, how many progression groups communicate using in-game methods?

The first time I actually communicated with people outside my guild in years was when warmode first came out. But that quickly went away when it turned into nothing but 40-man groups farming 1 player at a time.

Not the issue here. How you communicate via progression is way different that socializing in-game.

Cool, yeah. But that’s not what I’m talking about. I’d like to see examples of you communicating in-game. Because, other than RP, I’ve gone for multiple expansions without communicating with anyone outside of my guild. The game doesn’t encourage it. So my point was, if there’s nowhere that people communicate in-game, then there are going to be less trolls, because there’s no audience.

Do I need to speak slower? I’m not sure how to do that with text without being obnoxious, so I hope not.

Ah, insults…

In vanilla you didn’t need to communicate with random people outside of whispering “I’ll go” to someone looking for more for a dungeon or “LFM X Dungeon” if you were forming a group.

People using chat as a glorified AOL chat room doesn’t mean that it was by any means required.

Even using hyperbole, it’s still more communication required than BFA. Even Mythic + uses the LFG tool. I guarantee you the same number of crappy people exist, and would still do what they do if the game wasn’t designed to discourage communication.

I’m not trying to be insulting, I’m legitimately asking if you need me to break down what I said further. Otherwise, I’m just talking in circles because you kept either missing or avoiding my actual point.

Because you are stuck seeing everyone respond to them

Don’t care if you don’t care. Blizzard does not agree with you and neither do I.

Doesn’t stop anyone from trolling, but magically will cripple innocent totally not a troll like yourself? Yeah, no. The reason for your fake outrage is fear that your disruptions will be dealt with quickly and efficiently.

There are so many assumptions being thrown around that just because people don’t want the auto-squelch feature, it must mean they’re toxic or trolls. It’s hilarious.

Seriously … does the very act of people chatting upset you? Like for real? Are you not capable of ignoring people?

Oh, oh! You caught me! All I wanted to do was troll people. Never mind that I see things differently then you and don’t agree with putting this kind of powers in players hands. Nope, just want to be a troll. When I was an active player I didn’t spend 99% of the time with general, trade, local defense, and Lookingforgroup all turned off and really only interacted with my guild and roleplayers directly in /say. Nope. Just a troll.

Anyway. You do know that you can disagree with something and not be “outraged” right? That having a contrary position to someone doesn’t mean you are or want to be a bad person.

It’s hard to draw another conclusion when people say what they want is a consequence free environment.

I mean port royal didn’t technically condone pirates but by being a free port that’s clearly what it was.

Not wanting an auto-squelch is not asking for a “consequence free” environment.

They’re not saying that. They’re saying the tools in place prior to the automated system were enough. All you have to do is ignore. And if you’re bothered by it that much, put the people responding to them on ignore. If enough people ignore a troll, they no longer have an audience and lose power.

All the auto-squelch does is give trolls another avenue for trolling. Paid attention to the forums lately? Totally not abuseable.

You should probably just stop feeding the troll.

That’s fine and there have been other solutions proposed but simply asking to go back to the system before right click reporting is asking for a consequence free environment.

Yes that is what fear mongers want people to believe, ZOMG everyone will get squelched instantly because of auto squelch. Yet after years this has never happened :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Again, that tool was introduced to a game that has little to no social interaction. It has yet to be tested in an actual social game. You can’t really claim it won’t be abused because it’s not been in an environment where abuse would accomplish anything.
