DirectX12 on many Nvidia cards is outright not working. Please fix ASAP Blizzard

Ever since 10.0 pre-patch, I have been getting a lot of strange UI bugs and texture glitches running WoW on DirectX12 with a Nvidia GTX 1650 Super. Here are some examples:

I tried various technical solutions on my end and nothing worked. I can run all other games fine without issues and I have the latest Nvidia drivers. I was starting to worry maybe my GPU was outright failing, but then I come across this thread on WoW reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/wow/comments/z7vzfu/display_texture_issue_dragonflight/

Other people are running into the exact same problem as me and the common thread is they all seem to be on a GTX 1650. This might effect 1660’s as well - I’m not sure. These issues seem to occur the longer you play the game. A relog clears them for a while, and then something else will screw up.

Changing to DX11 does fix these issues, but the game runs much more smoothly (better overall FPS) on DX12 and it looks better/sharper, so I don’t feel that running on DX11 is a justified long-term solution. The 1650 is a more-than-capable DX12 card that did not have these problems in Shadowlands. (Although I do remember some texture flickering at the start of SL, it was later fixed.)

Anyway, I am mainly posting this to get the attention of a Mod or someone that can pass this along to the technical people at Blizzard so you and Nvidia or whoever can figure this out. Something between Dragonflight and these Nvidia cards is not playing right. Also, if you are running a Nvidia card on DX12 and are experiencing similar graphics bugs, please post here.

Edit/update: Ok, I was wrong in assuming it was just the GTX 1600 series cards. This problem seems to be effecting a wide range of cards from the GTX and RTX series. It almost assuredly has something to do with drivers. Once again, Blizzard needs to get on top of this.

Update: Just installed the absolute latest Nvidia drivers (327.37) and I’m still getting gfx issues. Blizzard please look into this.

Just re-installed WoW completely. It worked ok for a few hours and then the texture corruption started again. I am finished trying to find a solution. This has to be something on Blizzard’s and/or Nvidia’s end.

I’m having the same issue! Tried scanning and repairing WoW and it didn’t work. My card is a RTX 2060, tho.

I’ve been having the exact same issue too, though with an Nvidia RTX 3070

I’ve reinstalled the drivers, done scan upon scan to ensure that there’s nothing wrong with the hardware, even made sure it’s seated properly.

this only started to happen after Prepatch, and it ONLY affects WoW.

I’ve done a full reinstall of WoW just to see if that will fix it, but it seems to be an issue with Nvidia cards from what people are saying.

Can you try rolling back to an older version of your drivers? That’s solved graphical issues for me in the past.

Try using their optimization tool, GeForce Experience. When I started using their optimized settings I stopped getting flashing textures on my 3-series card.

I have a workaround that works, it’s annoying to do everytime it happens tho.Go to graphics settings, go to the Graphics card setting, and it’s either going to be on your graphics card or “auto detect” setting, swap between them and everything will fix itself for 30 min~1h. whenever the glitches start appearing again, just switch them back as it were, and keep bouncing it back and forth whenever it happens, that’s what I do at least and it works.

I have had the same issue with my 2070 super the entire launch of DF, switching to DX11 is a nice bandaid, looking forward to having DX12 back again.

Is that what this is with the trees? https://imgur.com/jLoiakn started getting my texture issue on the 9th at midnight. it comes and goes.

Thankfully, I was starting to think it was my GPU dying.

My problem started in pre-patch as well, but became more frequent in DF areas, mainly Valdrakken.

Problem only resolves itself when starting Wow again.

I am also encountering this issue in most of the DF areas after about an hour or so of play. My quick fix for now is toggling Auto Select and my actual Geforce 2080TI card in the graphics option to bring it back to normal, or going back to DirectX11

This has happened to me as well, RTX 2080S here. Another fast way to temporarily fix it is to type /console gxrestart

same exact issues here!!!

I have switched from DX12 to DX11 and I am still encountering these issues.

wow, I had no clue such command exists. I’ll give it a try. Usually I just re-log.

does anyone know if this is an NVIDIA only issue? doesn’t happen with AMD cards?

Nvidia GeForce stopped detecting WoW today. Not sure what’s going on with my settings. Even sound has changed :frowning:

Same issues here. Using a GeForce 3060.

Only happens in WOW.

Also, the game is not being detected by GeForce Experience.

Anyone have an update? The only thing I have yet to try is using DDU (https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html) in safe-mode to completely remove all traces of current/past video drivers and then install the latest Nvidia drivers to see if it was an issue with driver corruption.

If anyone tries this please report back.

I have done this and the issue came back within 30 minutes of playing

Ok, then there’s nothing left to do but wait for a fix either from Blizzard, or more likely, Nvidia.

Same issues for me on an RTX 2060Super. Just went through a full fresh install of driver from NVIDIA, and repaired WoW files. Still having issues.
