Dinar Issue

  • Ticket Number: US106721629

  • Bought the wrong item with dinar, noticed it was hero and not myth as i placed the enchantment on to it and now i cannot sell to vendor to get dinar currency back. I already have my 727 crafted weapon, the item bought with Dinars would be of no use at all. Was a complete accident, I got the right item name, but apparently from the wrong vendor. The Myth version is available to me too. The NPC names are almost identical, Fixer So’kir and Fixer So’tho. I’m really bummed about this. =/

GM Response- Lohkuull

Hey there, My name is Game Master Lohkuull, and I’d like to apologize for the time it has taken us to get back to you, we have been quite busy, but we are doing our very best to get back to every player as soon as possible. From what I understand you wanted a refund request for this purchase. Many tokens and currencies used for items can normally be refunded within 2 hours of the item being purchased, provided that you don’t use the item, equip it, or modify it - you just need to refund it by talking to a vendor in-game. If you accept the binding of the item then you will need to keep it, though some won’t allow refunds at all, like emblem conversions, or stackable items. Some items sold with gold or tokens/currencies, like the Kirin Tor rings or Bloody tokens will display a confirmation window before finishing the purchase. There are also some items that do not have a refund option like the Tokens of Merit from the Great Vault. This means we cannot refund or swap this here for you and while it isn’t the answer you probably wanted to hear, it’s the only one we can provide. Personally I would always advise you to double check a purchase before going through with it, to avoid mistakes from happening. If you believe there is room for improvement here, you’re most welcome to provide your suggestions and feedback via the in-game tool, which will be sent directly to our developers; simply click “Submit Suggestion” and provide a brief description of your suggestion or feedback. I sincerely hope this you can still give some use to this item, and that this purchase has not hindered your progress in the game. All the best, and have a great day!

My Response-

This response is pretty unacceptable. I could see this if a customer was a habitual abuser of asking Game Masters to help them with such issues. I’ve played this game fairly consistently since 2006. I open very FEW tickets, almost never. I’m a fairly entrenched World of Warcraft player. Customer service has slipped in a drastic way throughout it’s years. As I and the player base have bought into WoW Tokens, shop items, increasingly higher tier expansion offers, the customer service supporting these purchases gone downhill. It is increasingly hard to even figure out how to open a ticket through the menu. Obviously an intent of the design. My issue was a very simple fix. It was clearly an accident. An accident that was partially to blame of the NPC’s being nearly on top of each other, and having almost exactly the same name. I imagine that it took more effort for someone to write the response that I received than to have removed the item in my bag and put the intended item in it’s place, or just have refunded the currency. The currency that took weeks to earn. A brief glance at my character would show that I could in no way have needed the item that was purchased. I will assume that the Game Master responding to my ticket lacks the power to resolve the issue. I will also assume that a GM would have to escalate the ticket to have it resolved. That would likely look bad on them, for not having the issue taken care of. Blizzard either needs to rethink their policy on this situation, give the lower GM’s the ability to resolve this sort of thing, or not look negatively on their employee for doing what they were able to do within their power. Like many of my fellow players I have an increasing question in my mind. Why do I still play this game? It honestly is not for the game. I play for the community, I enjoy my friend group. That friend group is growing smaller all the time. It is this sort of thing that is causing that to happen. Please do better, the community needs it.

Gm Response-

Dydugyno

Hi Webster, Game Master Dydugyno here. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us. We truly appreciate the care and dedication you’ve shown to World of Warcraft over the years and we understand how important your in-game progress and purchases are to you, that’s why I have double checked your case. After reviewing your request, we’re sorry to confirm that we’re unable to refund or replace items that were purchased using virtual currency. Once the transaction is completed in-game, it can’t be reversed or adjusted. We know this might not be the answer you were hoping for but please know your feedback is valuable to us. If you’d like to share your thoughts about how these systems could be improved, you can do so through the in-game suggestion tool or on our forums, feedbacks from long-time players like you helps our teams make meaningful improvements. I know that this will not interrupt your gameplay and you will be able to continue enjoying your games as you have done all these years. Your feedback is always important and we’ll keep it in mind as we continue to improve the game. If you have any other questions or need further assistance, feel free to reach out. Thanks for your understanding, have a nice day! Kind Regards, GM Dydugyno

Now with all that, after submitting my ticket response I was notified of a new real money currency, Hearthsteel. Once again expanding my ability to give Blizzard more money, for less customer service. How much would a customer service subscription cost? Many, many years ago a similar issue had been fixed for me. Why is it now that a GM cannot refund the item, or replace it with the intended one? Is it that policy dictates they cannot these days? If it is because it would increase ticket traffic, make a similar system to the item restoration service. Maybe include it in the item restoration service.

Yes. As you received the answer:

I would also assume that you’re slightly threatening or belittling the GM here. There’s no such thing as “lower” GM here - all GM’s are equal. Their management is not allowed to just do the other thing, because the policy already says they did the right thing.

It wouldn’t even look “negative/bad” on them for refusing to help you: They simply followed what the policy outlined states they should do.

But in your case, you applied an enchantment on it and waived the warning box.

Your only option is to suggest on a non-support forum that they should make clearer vendors or through the feedback panel as GM’s do not forward game development critique.

As you’ve learned, GMs can’t undo all user errors. There are pop-ups whenever warning a user, that they must accept, when doing an action would make the item no longer refundable.

Sorry you learned the lesson of paying attention more this way, with a limited currency item. Hopefully you at least got a transmog out of.

I’m sorry, Gavel, but that is not a new thing. For a very long time now our Support staff has not been able to assist with certain purchases, mostly around the various in-game currencies.

Our Game Developers specifically implemented mechanics to help mitigate potential mistakes. That is why you have to confirm your choice when you go to make a purchase with the Puzzling Cartel Chips. It is also why there is a 2 hour refund timer associated with the purchase, which provides another warning when you attempt to perform an action that will clear that refund timer.

I’m not entirely certain what that has to do with any other virtual currencies that may be introduced, but the reason for these policies is because the Game Developers want to give players agency over their choices, and their mistakes. They provide what protections they can, but in the end you ultimately have to take responsibility for your own actions.

If you wish to see a change in how these systems work, it would be best to submit your feedback either by posting in a constructive manner in the Community Forums or by using the Submit a Suggestion option through the in-game interface under Support.
