Haven’t played in like a year and came back to find all the OG servers have been locked and there’s a whole new tab for a completely different set of servers. Is there something special that happened to cause the server split or is it more Blizzard tomfoolery trying to get rid of any trace of their old, non-MTX’d version of the game?
Last September, they did a big “server consolidation” to Pagle (and added some virtual realms to Pagle). Other than Grobbulus, all PVP realms for force changed to Normal, and other than Pagle (and its virtual realms) you cannot make new characters on any of the realms, unless you already have one.
There are free transfers to Pagle (and its virtual realms) from all other servers, including Grobbulus.
Grobbulus is locked though. Is it just the time of day or are they canning that server too?
There are free transfers off Grobbulus to Pagle (and its virtual realms).
The two blue posts have pretty much all the information that’s available. Grobbulus is locked, as in you cannot create new characters on it, if you don’t already have one. I don’t know why they didn’t move it to Legacy as well.

Grobbulus is the only realm you cannot create new characters even if you already have characters on it. I’ve made multiple attempts to get a response as to why and been ignored.
Oh, okay… That’s new (ish at least). I moved most of my characters to Grobbulus from the realms I played on during Classic 2019 until they force-changed them to PVP, and then stopped playing Classic progression as my main game shortly afterwards.
Thank you for pointing out that you can no longer create characters on it, even if you have them. I suppose that may be what “locked” means, though I think it has meant something different at other times.

Technically not correct. There is a roleplaying server which serves as its own cluster - no link to Pagle and no restrictions on new characters. Bloodsail Buccaneers is the ideal home for those of us that hate over-crowding and megaservers even if we never want to roleplay.
Grobbulus was dead.
